Snow!!!

On Tuesday I took a bunch of snow pictures. I think a bunch of them came out really nicely. I had fun playing with the different color modes.

I actually had a dream last night about someone telling me I should buy my camera online, where it was $144. And I was like "But I already have one..."

And then today my mom calls up and asks me what kind of camera I have, since she wanted to buy a camera and knew I really like mine. So that was weird. Usually it's at least a few days, if not weeks, before my weird dreams turn into reality.

A few nights ago I dreamed that there was this gym where there was sme weird type of linnear sword-fighting. This woman was challenged by this man, and the woman had a level 1 sword and she somehow got the man's sword. Then he took two level 2 swords, and again she managed to de-sword him. This happened a few more times until they got up to level 12, which was the highest, and she had both swords to his neck, and then he asked her out [and they had never met, he had just challenged her for the heck of it I think.] I wasn't part of this, but it all looked cool.

There was another one where I found out one of my JitW friends was coming on tel es-safi, and I said "eeee!" and was jumping up and down. (IRL he's not coming, and never was planning to.)

I can still hear the clang of hoes and trowels when I lie my head down.

So I haven't done one of those dream posts in a while, even though I've had plenty of weird dreams since the last time I posted. One in particular stuck out, though if I remember other old ones, I'll post.

I still am sick. Yesterday I was dehydrated and nauseous, today I was just coughing a lot. I wonder if I have any cells left in my esophagus.

Mikey has ice pops [aka popsicles]. They're quite good. They make my throat hurt less.

As does tea. I like having an urn.

I had an amusing nightmare last night.

A dream

Me and a few other people were shopping in a craftstore. We were in the candle aisle, and I was trying to get some candles I could use for Shabbat. The problem was that this evil girl had control of the candle prices, and made them all uberexpensive. But I lucked out and saw some packages of the tsfat channukah candles. I bought a few of those, and a package of pens that had similar wrapping.

Then I was in a place with these pokemon. And I had one named George. I forget what happened there, but it was amusing at the time.

Gah! I hate it when I forget things about dreams.

And why do all my Shabbat dreams involve me breaking Shabbat?

I looked in the mirror.

And I had bangs!

That's right, that hair that comes down to your forehead, in a straight line, all 80s-ish. Someone was cutting my hair and made the bangs without asking me whether or not I wanted them. And I started crying, because they looked hideous. And it had taken me so
long to wear them out the last time*. At least then I could clip them to the side with hairclips, which were in style then.

So [livejournal.com profile] levana_b and I went to a target-like store, trying to find me a good hat or scarfy-thing, that I could wear to hide them. I'd rather people think I was married than show my face in public with the hideous bangs.

It took me until this morning when I was showering to realize that it was only a dream.

I had a dream last night, in which I was in RI on Friday, right before Shabbat, driving around the East Side of Providence with my mom.

Mom: Rachel, where am I taking you for shabbas?
Me: That's a very good question. I don't know.
Mom: You don't know?!

So I made a bunch of frantic phone calls within the 18 minutes and ended up at the Yavners. They had a weird breakfast meal for Friday night dinner.

*Note to self, arrange the Shabbats of spring break before that Friday afternoon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a midterm in primates and I think I did decently, though there were a few questions I messed up on. But it was a section that wasn't worth so many points so it was ok.
I also tried biking in the snow today. Bad idea. The bike lanes are not plowed, so there are 2 options- bike in the street or bike on the sidewalk. The street has the risk of cars. The sidewalk isn't completely shoveled, and has crazy pedestrians who can't walk in a straight line.
I also biked through actual snow at one point, and almost lost control of the bike.
I survived, barely. Perhaps because of this and Saturday night I should Bensch Gomel on Shabbat. I'll ask Seif.
I just got back from the cast party, which was at [livejournal.com profile] groovin_reuven's apartment [by the way thank you so much for hosting.] I'm guessing there were about 30 people there, and since his apartment was small people were sitting on the floors, and the music wasn't so loud and there wasn't dancing, so it was quite a laid back cast party. And there was tons of pizza for everyone, warmed up in the oven.
I was on time for davening this morning. Not just on time, but EARLY. I got there before 9:00am, there were like 3 guys around. So I sat through all of shacharit. Well except for getting up a billion times to drink water because I was dehydrated.
Last night, I had the most awful dream. I woke up from it at 7:20am, and usually I'd go back to sleep this early, but this time I was so afraid I'd just go back to that dream that I decided the extra sleep wasn't worth it. I was shaken up until tonight.
uberscary nightmare, which words can't convey )
my deli-roll meal was a success. i didn't label the deli-rolls, and each one was different, so everyone just passed them around and tried all of the different ones. And the one person who I was out to impress really liked my deli-roll, which made me very happy. A said there wasn't enough sauce, and then I think [livejournal.com profile] cynara_linnaea or possibly JL[female] or someone else yelled at him for not being nicer to me after I made 12 freaking deli-rolls. I just figure if he really cared that much then he shouldn't be eating my deli-roll anyways.
we went through most of them, but there's a little left over in 408's fridge that i have to retrieve. It's my lunch for Mongefest on Tuesday!
Then we hung out afterwards in the lounge, or the "fun room" as we renamed it. Mostly talking about the show, and other things as well.
--------------------------
Of course, I only had an hour between when I got home and when I had to go to Iron Gate, except it was really much shorter. And then something happened that I won't get into that took 15 precious minutes. And thus I had no time to go to FG before the show to pick up cast party food and flowers. I figured I'd get flowers at WaWa.
WaWa, much to my dismay, doesn't have flowers. And any place that did wouldn't be open. And I had to stay to make sure the pizza got here. So when i got back to Iron Gate I was in tears, and then A.J. saw me and was really nice, and then [livejournal.com profile] masteraleph tried to find someone else to get the flowers, but he ended up not, and JG said that 7-11 sells flowers, and they're much closer.
Unfortunately, there was only 1 rather dead boquet at 7-11, and I needed 2 boquets, the un-dead kind. So I had to go to FG after all [this was all after the pizza had arrived during intermission. I was very pissed off by the end of it and wanted to kill everyone who was making me do things. I mean fine, I have a job. But that job is costumes. Somehow I also became the general doeverythingsincei'mnotneededbackstage girl. And there's only 1 of me, and I really can't be at 2 places at the same time. But I got everything, and there were flowers.
I never get flowers, though. The cast got flowers for opening night. The stage manager and director got flowers tonight. But no flowers for me. I suppose I shouldn't care so much, and I got a really amusing book [the worst case scenario book!] but I also want flowers. Maybe not flowers for doing costumes, but flowers because it's my birthday soon [14 days!] and valentine's day soon [9 days] and yes I know valentine's day is really a christian holiday, but it's so secular now, and I want to get flowers and chocolate. I'm probably not going to, but I can always dream, right?
meanwhile I don't have actual birthday plans. my birthday is on a sunday, so we can't really go out [and i still have Sunday Night Learning] and the JG's birthday is the next weekend, so we'd be celerating hers. So I guess no birthday party. :( at least my parents are buying me tons of kippah yarn in israel if they can find it [i can find it easily, but then again i lived in jerusalem for 2 months].
And of course, another story that i'm not going to tell now. Because I always have stories.
theyellowhobbit: (Default)
A while ago I dreamed that I e-mailed Rachel Adler, and she was more than happy to help me on my thesis. So I flew out to LA to meet her.
On the plane today back to RI I took a nap (Yay sleep deprivation!) and dreamed that I was running around and grabbed a sandwich to eat. I passed by Chuck, and asked him if he wanted a bite. He said sure. Then he tasted it and didn't like it. So then I threw it out. I can't even remember what type of sandwich it was. I usually don't eat sandwiches [the exception being Panini).
If in general my dreams have been prophetic [which they have been to some extent. It's kind fo weird] I'm wondering if I should e-mail Rachel Adler. If it worked in my dream, maybe it could work in real life. I'm not even sure what I'd ask her [now that I finished that paper, baruch Hashem.]
A few nights ago I dreamed that I e-mailed the Yavners, asking if I could go over for Shabbat. Then I realized they'd be in Boston and e-mailed them again, feeling like an idiot.
[Meanwhile, IRL, they were actually here this shabbat.]
over shabbat... )
I also had another dream that my Ruderman paper didn't get to him until Monday.
I was on my way to Canada, to stay witha frum family. On the way I was going to go sight-seeing. I called them up for directions, and they said to drive through Olduvai Gorge*. I got so excited. Olduvai Gorge! Part of cradle of humanity, home of awesome fossilness.
Then I woke up, and realized that I was a huge anthropology dork. This stuff wasn't even recent. I couldn't have heard anything about Olduvai Gorge since January at the latest.
I'm thinking of e-mailing Monge about it. What else does she have to do during break anyways?
*Olduvai Gorge is located in Africa, {not Canada} Southeast of Lake Victoria. Paranthropus Boisei [one of the early homonids,3-1 million BC] was found there.
Normally I wouldn't spend money on wireless that I'll only use for an hour, but right now I really need a distraction or I'll go crazy.
I'm in the Philadelphia airport, Terminal E, waiting for a 9:20 flight to R.I.
[interlude]
I had a dream last night that I was in my room, and someone had a pet cricket who was trapped in a paper bowl. He escaped and brought back 100 of his friends, who all attacked me.
I left the room to escape and went to my mom's room. She looked at me, and said "Why are you here? shouldn't you be at school? What about exams?"
I told her that this was a dream, and I still had 5 minutes until the alarm went off.
Then a few things happened, and then the alarm went off.
-------
So when I woke up, I checked my phone, which had been on silent, and my mom had called at 7am. It might have happened when she glared at me in the dream. Weird...
I called my mom's cell and she didn't pick up. I called the house and no one picked up. I called Adler's hardware, and Judy said that my dad and my Grandma were at Grandma's house.
here's the bad part )
If you want to daven for my Grandfather, his Hebrew [really Yiddish] name is Coleman ben Esther.
Somehow I was inside peasant's quest, though it was a weird real-life version. I had a sword, and there were all these random people after me. At one point, I was hiding in my basement with Celine.
Then we were in anth class, though the classroom was completely different, and people were reminiscing about the good ol' days when they gave us Chip's Ahoy cookies in school, which they had stopped doing recently.
I talked to the guy sitting next to me, and he had gotten a 39 on his anth test, and he asked to see mine. It turns out that there was a question on the mishnah [yes, this was anthropology...] and I wrote in Hebrew for at least part of the test. The guy was impressed. I'm not sure how professor Urban or Teagan would have graded my test with Hebrew in it, but it made sense in the dream.
Then someone was talking about the cool tableclothes they had at the chinese restaurant, which were disposable, but made out of a cool material, and you could get them for free there. I was considering going in and swiping some for a shabbat meal some time. Then I woke up.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Having woken up, I decided I needed 10 minutes more of sleep.

I was in Towne now, and they randomly were having another career fair for engineering, and I found the person who gave out the cool light-up pens. I asked the woman there if I could have 2, and she said sure. So I gave one to Avidan, since he had given me his in real life, and the other I was giving to Ari Levine.

The only problem was that it wasn't kosher. Though it's a pen! Which is what I told him, but he said something about maaris ayin [looking like you're doing something wrong, that might cause people to think that something forbidden by halacha is actually permitted, thus causing them to sin] and how the pen looked edible, and someone might think it's kosher. It's a light-up pen! Who would eat a light-up pen?!?!?!

Next time I see Ari, I'll ask him about it, and he'll have no clue what I'm talking about.

I haven't writen about my weird dreams in a while, even though I've had many.

Now, in technicolor! More vivid than ever! )
----------
I also had a weird dream a while back that I was underground in some sort of excavation of ancient Egyptian ruins. Maybe I've had a few dreams like that.
----------
Recently, I had a dream in which I was walking down Walnut, and suddenly Adam and Brad were behind me. They yelled "Rachel," but I didn't hear them the first time. The second time I heard them and turned around. They wanted me to go back to Hillel with them.
--------
There is also this hugely weird dream which is a bit too religiously out-there for me to post it here. But it was hugely weird and involved G-d, and I never dream about G-d.
theyellowhobbit: (Default)
Today I had a meeting with Janet Monge. Last night I had a dream about said meeting. I dreamed that she wasn't sure whether or not I could take her class, since I had to leave early for the first 2 weeks, since she'd rather give my spot to someone who didn't have to leave early. I also, for some reason, had to demonstrate that I could bike really quickly to Hillel.

Speaking of biking- I have a new talent- precision biking. "What is this?" you may ask. It involves my bike, the basket in the front of my bike, various large objects, and a coffee from Wawa. What you do is buy a coffee, put your large objects [such as an environmental studies book or a gym bag] in the basket, and then squeeze the coffee into the corner, with the large object holding it in place. Then you bike downhill to the anthropology museum. The object of precision biking is to get to the museum without spilling the coffee. A little bit on the lid is fine, but it can't go flying out. So far, out of 2 tries, I've succeeded both times.

So now the real meeting- she said she'd love to have me in her class, and it was fine if I had to leave a little early for the first few weeks. I also might be able to volunteer at the museum next semester, and she said if I was there for long periods of time, I could get access to the student lab to study in. Which might give me museum access.

Speaking of museum access, which Ariela will soon have, I could have used it today. After class I wandered about the exhibits, and I then tried to get back to the classroom part of the museum. I knew that if I crossed the deck on top of the cafe, I could get there. Unfortunately you need museum access for that. So I had to go down 2 flights of stairs and then up 2 different flights of stairs. I still haven't explored the entire museum. Maybe I can go again this shabbas [hint hint Josh and Liz]. And I won't wear injury-inducing shoes, considering I'm up to "Avidan M" in the Avidan game.

Wow. Almost 400 words, none of which are for my story.

And now back to actual work.
