Shabbat and Gym

moss_raven's was amazing, and she's like the nicest person ever.
Getting to DC proved to be an adventure. I got to the greyhound station, and by the time my ticket was printed, the 1:30 bus was full. And I was 5 people away from boarding. We thought they'd get us another bus, seeing as there were a lot of us displaced. But they said no, we would have to wait for the next one. The next one was at 3:15, and would get in at 6:55!!! Yeah right, no way I was going to take that bus. I called
leftyjew, quite frantic, but he had the internet, and looked up train schedules. So I went to 30th street station to catch the train.
I was going for the 3:30 one that would get in at 5:30, but they had room on the 2:30 one, and although it was already "boarding," the train itself had not arrived at the platform yet. So I was fine, and for most of the ride had my own seat.
I finally got there and treated myself to a cone of Ben & Jerry's for all of my troubles. And then Beth came and picked me up, though it took a while for us to find eachother.
We went to Kesher on Friday Night and DC minyan on Saturday. Dinner was just the two of us, and lunch was at
kellev's place (and
leftyjew was there as well).
For slichot on Saturday night we drove to O.T.,
moss_raven's old shul in Virginia. They started off with a movie called "Heaven can Wait" which I thought was really good. It's not theologically alligned with Judaism, but that wasn't the point anyways. We had a good discussion afterwards, with dessert!
The slichot service itself was rather odd, atypical of O.T. davening. It was almost Reform. We skipped a lot of the prayers and said some stuff in English (though I was doing the Hebrew instead...) The cantor had a good voice.
Afterwards the people sitting around me came up to me and told me that I had a really nice voice (I wasn't singing particularly loud or trying to show off). And they asked if I was in a choir, and I said no, and they asked if I would be around for Rosh Hashana, and I said that I had to be at school to lead services there. (And I have to mash a lot if I can't get the shifts filled...)
Getting home was a lot less eventful. I got on the 11:00 bus, and I got a seat to myself. Though after Baltimpre there was an annoying couple sitting across from me who were really loud and were all over each other. So I put on my ipod and tried to do as much reading as I could.
I was exhausted when I got home and eventually took
maric23's advice and napped, but woke up not so refreshed. But then I got out of my apartment and did some thesising. And then I had Sunday Night Learning.
Afterwards I had mashing, which was supposed to be over by 10. I was there until 10:30, headed upstairs, realized they had left a meat cart in the dining hall, and had to drag it downstairs (there's an elevator, but even getting it on and off that was tricky, and cups fell and I had to keep on putting them back on the cart.) I was thoroughly annoyed. The new dining hall staff haven't gotten used to their jobs, so they aren't as efficient as the people last year were. And a lot of the good people from last year left to find a better job. They don't get paid enough and aren't part of the union (unlike the workers in the other dining halls). And they have a harder job, since they have to deal with kashrut laws. And they work longer hours. They have no retirement plan. And then we lose our good people, and it takes a long time to train someone new. Unfortunately, it's Aramark who controls this stuff and not Hillel, so it's not like I can just walk into the office and say "you need to pay our dining hall workers more." I wish I could do that.

Today I woke up at7:15 7:30 to go gymming with
honkyredvan. She showed me how to do different exercises with weights for my arms and legs and abs. I went easy, since I don't know how sore I'll be tomorrow. Right now I feel fine.
So hopefully on Mondays and Wednesdays from now on I'll be able to do this, and then maybe Tuesday and Thursday nights I can use the elliptical. I wasn't going to elliptical today since that would be pushing myself too hard, but I might go tonight if E-hobbit is up to it.
And now I'm going to shower, get dressed, grab my books, and head out for great thesising and beyond!
