A carrel carol*
Sep. 14th, 2006 07:29 pmI went to the anthro museum library to see if they had any carrels left (I knew it wasn't very likely, but it was worth a try.)
Me: Do you have any carrels left that I could rent for the year?
Librarian: Are you a grad student?
Me: No...I'm writing a senior thesis, though
L: The carrels are only for grad students.
Me: In Van Pelt they let the undergrads have carrels.
L: There are only so many carrels, so these are only for grads.
Unlike
cynara_linnaea a Van Pelt carrel won't be very useful to me. Most of my sources are in the museum. All of my classes are in the museum. I live in the museum. (See the exhibit on Homo floresiensis)
So I went to the office and asked Gerriane if there was a space I could keep my books. She thought, and said there's an undergrad work lounge, but people might take my books there. But there were lockers, which are only for grads, but maybe if there was an empty one...
So we went to James, who said there were tons of empty lockers, and that I could have one (though I need to get my own lock for it.)
I chose locker #18. :)
So now I have a place in the museum to keep books, and although I'll still have to bring them in and out of the museum library, I don't need to carry them all home. Huzzah!
And I don't need a carrel in terms of workspace, since I have my spot on the 2nd floor, in one of the comfy chairs next to the low table. I always work there.
*My guess is that you can't sing this, and it's not really a carol, but you've got to admit this was a witty title.
