Gym Update

[livejournal.com profile] honkyredvan said I'd probably be sore when I woke up the next day (today) after weightlifting, and that would show how much the work-out affected me.

Only my left arm is sore, and my stomach if I were trying to do crunches or something.

Which means I probably can do more for everything else, and probably should be using more weight for my right arm. I was only using 5lb weights, which were the smallest in the room, because that's really all I can lift with my left arm. The next size up is 10lb. I wish they had stuff in between. Maybe they do in the hidden elliptical room (which I might be giong to tonight anyways for ellipticallingness).

Oh wait, the back of my right arm (deltoid muscle?) is sore, so at least I worked something there...

Am I turning into one of those annoying gym types who is obessed with health and fitness? I hope not. And considering the amount of chocolate chip cookies I had yesterday, I can't be that hard-core.

I just like the feeling of hobbity agility (I think hobbits would start at +5 anyways. Or maybe that's stealth. Or charisma) that I have now. It's nice to be fast. At some point there really was a noteable difference that I could feel. And now I'm used to it, and can't feel it anymore, and I want to be even quicker, like ninja speed.

Ok, time for class. Yes, I only have one today, hence the singular.

*Edit* OMG! The update button says "update captain's log" for talk like a pirate day! Arrrr you ready?

So today I went to the dining hall so Barry could teach me the new bug-checking techniques.

[livejournal.com profile] levana_b- It turns out that you only have to check a bit from each bag, see if it has bugs, and if it doesn't, reseal the bags. If it does, then you take the sieve thing and wash the leaves, but you don't need to check each one individually.

And [livejournal.com profile] superducky1- Broccoli needs to be cut up, and then checked like the lettuce is checked. And again, if there are no bugs, then you just seal up the bags.

And [livejournal.com profile] moss_raven and [livejournal.com profile] estherchaya, you can appreciate this: for strawberries the only thing we have to do in the Hillel kitchen is cut off the tops and wash them.

And there are chocolate chip cookies around, as usual. And I ate one. So hah, [livejournal.com profile] maric23! (Yes, I will continue to gloat about cookies until I get my camera, which was finally shipped today.)

I just went over high holiday stuff with cynarrrrrrra_linnaea. (Hence my current lack of voice.) I just learned the Torah reading today, but I have it mostly down. Normally I would just go through and learn it, but [livejournal.com profile] perseus_remus recorded everything for us, and his trop is way cooler than mine, so I wanted to learn it his way. Plus I don't know pazer or tlisha (gedolah and katana) in high holiday trop.

The problem is that I'm leading psukei d'zimrah for both days of Rosh Hashana, and there's nothing cool in psukei. No high holiday nusach. I would love to do a [livejournal.com profile] desh style psukei, but the gabbaiot want me to stick with stuff everyone knows, especially since services are long.

So no "אילו פיצנו" and no "אוזי" and no "אלך" which are like the awesomest songs ever.

My one hurrah is that I can do psalm 146 to "Halelujah." But that's it.

At least I get to lead YK mincha, which has the cool nuisach and isn't too long. But my guess is that sim shalom omits all the piyutim.

Oh, and Sim Shalom machzorim don't have the squares that tell you where the chazzan should start. So thus I must draw them in pre chag.

I'd better be leading a kabbalat shabbat soon (Shabbas Shuva perhaps?) to make up for the unfunness of double psukei.

And what's the plural of psukei? Psukei?
