in which I weigh the two cameras )

For the time being, I have a camera-phone, though I usually forget about the cameraness.
Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. This is one of those times where it didn't work so well. This is the ring that my Grandmother gave me for my 21st birthday. It's currently in a bank vault somewhere (I mean, I know where, but you don't need to know...) Unfortunately I didn't have my real camera when I got the ring (No one warned me that I might need it!) So I used the phone.

In other news, according to the mishnah of Niddah, a woman is considered a virgin only until she has her first period. Regardless of whether or not she's married.

In other other news, the sprinklers were going off as I went to North to visit [livejournal.com profile] levana_b and [livejournal.com profile] superducky1 for an ice-cream study break.

It's nice to be able to walk there, since I live so close. Last year I wouldn't have been able to, since who would come all the way out to 42nd and Spruce to walk me to North? It's one thing to walk someone home, but to walk them out? No one does that.

It's weird. Surprisingly I've never really been in danger, Baruch Hashem. Mind you, I live in the crime-infested land of West Philly, so this is no small feat. I've had friends who have gotten broken into, gotten mugged, or have had even worse things happen to them. And somehow I've avoided it all. Perhaps God is watching out for me. (Though then why isn't God watching out for all of my friends who these things have happened to?)

Anyways, I also went to the gym (all girls swimming!) since I was feeling fat again, which seems to be the theme of this month's LJing. Yes, I know. I shouldn't have had ice cream tonight if I felt fat. Common sense, right? Well I can always go to the gym again tomorrow. And in general I've gotten back to a semi-normal diet. Unfortunately, the scale at Pottruck, which I usually trust, said I was 128.4. Lovely. Just what I needed. (I know that I'm thinner than I was at the end of last semester, though, and then I weighed like 125ish. WTF? Stupid muscle...)

And my left shoulder is still sore. My knots have knots.

Ok, back to the write up of Mary Douglass (say "Douglass!") and then Ronny Reich, and then maybe sleep!

*Edit*- I finished the Douglass piece. Of course, it's hard to sum up 200 pages in 1 single spaced page of review. But oh well. My book has tons of post it tabs on it, since I can't highlight it.

I was going to go gymming with E-hobbit today. Unfortunately, when we got there, every single elliptical machine was taken. So we left (and 2 opened up on the way out, but only because we had already gathered our stuff.)

According to her, all the stairs we climbed (going up and down multiple times in search of a locker and ellipticalness) plus the walk there and back is exercise. I still want some exercise. Though I'm getting lazy. And I still need my hour of uninterrupted writing for the day (I'll have to do that every day, but that's it, and apparently my thesis will grow to outstanding proportions...)

The phone rang in my meeting with Ben. I just silenced it. But it turns out that it was Celine. Calling from India!!!! OMG!!!! (I tried her back but there was no answer. I'll try again later. I should have picked up and told her to call me back, but I was afraid that whoever it was would try to have a long phone conversation, plus it would be rude to pick up a phone when you're meeting with your thesis advisor)

And all the DC minyan aliyot have been given out. That means they're pretty darn organized, considering it's only Monday.

And I'm ordering my camera now. (I told Ben how I had wasted so much time thinking about it, but once I order it I'll be productive. Except for when I get out my repressed camera urges and go photo-crazy and take pictures of everything. Not that I would do that...) Whee!

First of all, I ordered the camera!

But which one did I go with?

You all can guess (except [livejournal.com profile] maric23, since he knows. And anyone he's told.) I'll post the answer after I do my thesis work for the night.

And the choices again are:

1. The Pansaonic FX9
2. The Panasonic TZ1
3. Something random and impulsive that I decided to get at the last minute.

And what color did I get?

1. Black
2. Blue
3. Silver
4. Pink
5. Camoflauge
6. Leopard print!

Can you imagine a leopard-print camera? I'd be very afraid.

And did I pay the extra 26$ for next day shipping? Or the extra 7$ for 4-6? Or the extra 16$ for 2-3? Or did I just stick with the 7-10 ground?

*Edit* [livejournal.com profile] okazu_kangaroo thinks that I need to give you guys a prize for guessing correctly. It's easy for me to do that for Philly people (deli-roll, ice cream, etc). But for everyone else, it would be harder. So for nwo I'll give you all points. Maybe the winner can choose something for me to write a post on.

So yeah. 1 hour uninterrupted. That means no AIM. I came up o the rooftop lounge since last year the wireless was patchy/non-existant, but this year there's the AirPennNet, which seems to be working just fine.

You can do this, hobbit. (Even if you are in pain right now.)

On your mark, get set, go!

Yes!

1 hour, uninterrupted of thesis work. I earned myself a break, or at least working on the stuff for the JWST thesis meeting tomorrow with interruptions (ie as I talk on aim). I want to finish the Neusner book tonight, or at least as much as I can while still having a decent bedtime.

I'll keep the camera guessing open until tomorrow, since no one has guessed yet.

Now that it has been given to the intended wearer, I can show you all the top-secret kippah project.

taken with the camera-phone )

It was commissioned by [livejournal.com profile] hatam_soferet. It's quite shiny. And it was pretty easy to make.

Now I'm working on the Rabbi's Daughter's kippah. I had to take out 2 patterned rows, since she wants a roundish geometric pattern as opposed to the shiny one I used for the Raphi-Dassi wedding. I need to borrow TB's kippah pattern book, because the pattern she liked came from there, and not from my book. You think I would have copied it over or something...

Actually, I probably did, and just threw it out when I was done.

And I can work on yours, [livejournal.com profile] kellev in the meantime, since I don't want to proceed on the other one until I know exactly what she wants, for fear of having to undo what I've done (which wastes my time. Not that I'm in a rush.)

If I really were motivated, I could try to finish it this week, and bring it with me to DC. Though usually the small thread kippot take longer. And I'm only in the center of it as of now (I had started a while back...)

Do you want the blues to be in lines, or do you want me to alternate stiches of color in between rows for a gradally fading effect? It would be harder, but it might be fun.
