Shabbat and casino night
Apr. 9th, 2005 11:56 pmSo Shabbat did not get off to a good start. I was still very disappointed about the whole tisch thing. On my way out to Ilana Cowen's, I ran into Raphi and Dassi, who thought I was overreactcing. Raphi maintained that we do sing a lot in the OCP. I mean, compared to monsey, we do. But compared to NFTY, we don't.
Ilana's meal was awesome. I was the only undergrad. I was also pretty much the only non-medical person. Apparently in med school you learn really raunchy pneumonic devices to memorize bones and nerves and stuff like that.
I stayed overnight at Ilana's because I'm not so sure if Sansom has a Shabbas list, and I didn't have time to look into it, so I didn't want to risk not being able to get into the building. We stayed up talking until like 1am. Ilana had a really cool chabad rebbetzin teach her niddah and shomer nagiah, so I think Ilana and I are gonna have a chevruta next year. It should be pretty easy considering that we're gonna live together.
Saturday morning I woke up at 9:10. I figured it wasn't worth it to go to davening, so I did a quick shacharis, had a breakfast of cheese and challah, and read. I woke up Ilana at 10:50, and we went to Kiddush at 11:30.
Tova's meal was good. My deli roll came out quite nicely [yes, Ari, you win. Honey is superior.] We had a lot of singing.
Then we [Ari, Joseph, Sharon, Naomi, Brian {Isaac's prefrosh} and I] walked to Rittenhouse square and back. It's about a 40 minute walk or something, and it was really nice out. We got back at like 4:30.
I went to Ilana's to take a nap. It was a nice nap. I dreamed that I called her at 7:30, because I had forgotten that Shabbat ended at like 8:20. And I felt really bad...But she picked up... Silly dreams.
I woke up at 6:30, and at 7 I left. I had to use Ilana's spare keys to lock the door, so I went to Dredze's to find her and give them back. Then there was shalshuddis, which had no singing this week because we had a speaker.
Shabbat ended. I came back and sent my attempted lesson plan to Ruth, since she's going to Boston tomorrow, and I'm teaching on Monday. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Casino night was fun. I spent most of the time playing blackjack at Netas table, where I usually won. I also played roulette for a bit. In the end, for every 50$ of chips you got a raffle ticket. I got 6.
And somehow, I won the grand prize!
2 tickets to whatever show I want, with no expiration date, as long as the total value of the tickets is 300$ or less. We have this guy in the OCP, Danny Panzer, who has the insane ability to get tickets to anything. So 150$ tickets are really nice ones, if you're going to a broadway show.
So the question is what to do with my tickets. I have a few options:
1.Go to 2 shows by myself
2.Go with a friend [no clue who...Julie thinks I should have a contest or something.]
3.Use them to be 2 of the 3 tickets for Mom, Jon, and I to see Spamalot [Musical of Monty Python and the Holy Grail]. The thing is, this is Jon's birthday thing, so the 'rents already paying, so I wouldn't really gain anything from that. I sound selfish now...But the next option will make you think otherwise.
4. Donate to the OCP auction the chance to see any broadway show of your choosing with me, your favorite Yellow Hobbit. So I still get to see a show, and i don't have to figure out who to go with, and the OCP makes money for whatever cause we're donating to this year. I'm already donating a kippah and 2 deli rolls {possibly 3} to the auction. But none of these things are costing me that much, so it's not such a big deal. And who knows. Maybe a really cute shomer boy will win.

Date: 2005-04-09 09:41 pm (UTC)Wow!
Date: 2005-04-10 11:00 am (UTC)It's so great to win prizes! I won a package of art supplies in February 2003. I gave them to my kids, but there was one datebook in there for me, and I used it as a journal. Being a Mom of little ones, I hadn't kept a journal in years, but it seemed like a Divine Sign that I should start again. Clearly, your winning is a Divine Sign, too. But I don't know which of your ideas is better: sharing with family or a contest for friends. Either way, have fun!
