Hard decision made easy
Apr. 23rd, 2008 10:21 pmSo I was in a bit of a dilemma when I found out on Saturday that Warren's LARP (live action role playing game) will be on the 11th of May, because Jews in the Woods (JitW) is also that weekend. The site for JitW is a half a day's drive from DC, so I couldn't just go back late Saturday night and make it to Cambridge in time for the LARP.
On the one hand, I had signed up for the LARP over a month ago, whereas JitW was a more recent thing, and also his LARPs are supposed to be amazing. And though he may run it again at Vericon, this time there would be all my HRSFA friends, next time it would be random Vericon people. Which could be more or less awesome, depending.
On the other hand, it's been over a year since I've been to a JitW. And I'd be seeing friends who I haven't seen in forever. And I've been in need of some spiritual recharging. The prayer services at JitW are amazing, the singing is amazing, the amount of love there is amazing. It's one of those places where I feel completely comfortable.
On that same hand, there are a lot of people wanting to be in the LARP and I'd thus be easily replaceable. Also, I'd be leading a lot of services for JitW, so I'd be very useful there.
Back on the first hand again, I have a 20 page paper due the 9th.
Yeah, that's right, 20 pages.
Here I was, thinking about writing a post wherein I'd ask you guys to tell me whether I should go to JitW or stay for the LARP, since there are both JitW and HRSFA people reading this. But then there was a 20 page paper.
I just talked to
currentlee who told me not to come to JitW (even though he's running prayer) since my academic life comes first. We would have to drive down the 8th, so I'd be losing a lot of paper-writing time. And with all my other work there's no way that this paper will be done early. And writing it in the car would be quite hard, especially if I end up with lots of sources.
So I'm sad about missing JitW, but at the same time I know this is the right decision. And I don't have to agonize over it, since the decision was made for me.
Though I also have to write that paper. And right nwo I'm working on a 4 page paper due at 11am tomorrow, and I have 3 1-2 page response papers due tomorrow at 3PM. And my D&D paper is due the 2nd. Etc.
I'm so screwed.

Date: 2008-04-24 03:04 am (UTC)LARP: It's called the Tale and the Twilight and will be in an Arabian Nights type setting. This is the 3rd in a series, though I wasn't in the other two. Basically there are male and female characters, and your goal is to find your true love.
Eventually I will get a character sheet for it...
By the way, you should totally come to Vericon next year if you have free time in January. We could increase the contingent of religious Jews, and you could LARP, and game, and do all sorts of otehr shiny things...

Date: 2008-04-24 03:21 am (UTC)I'm awake and should be writing, but have been very unproductive. I have 11.5 hours left until this paper is due. Theoretically I could just wake up early, but the problem is that I have davening tomorrow, so I'll already be waking up early...Maybe they don't need me.
