Noah Meal

[livejournal.com profile] adlight did all the baking and conceptualizing of the ark, though we helped her decorate. [livejournal.com profile] currentlee did all the baking of the challot. I washed dishes, handed people things (which sometimes required me standing on the counter, which I actually enjoy) and ate frosting. I was on a sugar high by the time we were done. (After all, there was a bowl of yellow frosting and a bowl of green frosting and they needed to be licked. You can't waste good frosting...)

So dinner was fun. We sang shir hama'alot to "Rise and Shine" (I thought of it, suggested it jokingly, and didn't expect us to actually do it...)

And then I went to sleep. Prawn Salad (see pictures 2 and 3) was in my room, so I had the door open so she could leave. But she ended up sleeping on my bed.

I woke up at 8 this morning to get to SCM, since I was leading Hallel. I ended up arriving at the end of psukei d'zimrah. But even when I showed up we lacked a minyan. Luckily, Hallel does not require one. And I did a good job. Yay Hallel!

Then there was a kiddush. Afterwards, MZ and I headed to Tremont Street for their kiddush, which was this huge thing in memory of their late Rabbi, who was this amazing man who was really welcoming. Originally he did all of the high holiday stuff (like all the davening and leining and organizing) so the shul gave him a surprise kiddush to honor him. And then it became an annual thing. And since it's parsha Noach we sang "Rise and Shine" [again for me]. And there were 2 verses that were extra (at least in that I never learned them growing up.) One was about the dove going out to find the olive branch and another was the animals leaving in threes (as in they had an offspring. But many animals give birth to more than one baby at a time. So it wasn't so accurate...)

In the afternoon a bunch of us hung out at [livejournal.com profile] gedalia's house. [livejournal.com profile] elfsdh and I got into a discussion about egalitarianism and the ridiculous situations that could come up. Of course, he had answers for most of my ridiculous questions, so I couldn't out-egal him.

And then after a game of scrabble and lots of schmoozing and some eating of challah, we all went home. There were only a couple of hours of Shabbat left at that point. So I read. And then Shabbat ended. And then we did havdallah. And now I'm upstairs typing this and eating a turtle-cupcake. It is joining 2 other turtles, so it won't be lonely.

You have made me very very hungry. I made challah once when I was a kid but never since. I should try that again sometime. Do you have a good recipe by any chance?

By the way, I got your mail. Sorry I didn't let you know sooner but I had to leave my apartment last night. No heat = 39 degrees = leave home. :) Thanks again for all of your help!

You're welcome. I'm glad it arrived safely. (I hope it's readable enough.) And I'll ask [livejournal.com profile] currentlee for his challah recipe when he gets back. Because the rainbow challah tasted as amazing as it looked. It used a lot of honey. So it's my kind of challah.

So it wasn't so accurate...

Accurate? It seems to have only accounted for the P story, but not the J story (eg, twosees, but no sevensees).

Of course, he had answers for most of my ridiculous questions

Because ridiculous things happen in egal minyanim. Somehow, I manage to find myself in the center of these things.

No I'm talking about "The animals, they came off, they came off in threesies threesies..." The coming on in twos is still accurate in that the 7 were 7 pairs, so they were also in twos, not that people actually conceptualize it.

Actually I bet the majority of non-livestock species on the ark gave birth to more than one offspring at the time.

And also, they aren't even taking gestation periods into account.

And not all of my proposed situations actually happen. Like the wedding dress question. Hasn't happened yet to my knowledge.

One has to be prepared for things like that to come up :-)

That should say "..not that people actually conceptualize it that way"

What a neat(and looks really tasty too!) idea, to have an ark with animals out of cake and cupcakes. Yum! : ) Also, the rainbow challah looked really cool. I think it is neat that you and your friends were so creative! : )

[livejournal.com profile] gedalia and [livejournal.com profile] elfsdh?! Two different worlds colliding... I know them.... (well, I know [livejournal.com profile] elfsdh's wife, anyway....)

You have obviously found a good crowd for yourself.

[livejournal.com profile] navelofwine would have appeared in this post had she not been off chevrutaing.

My worlds colliding too- I know [livejournal.com profile] elfsdh and [livejournal.com profile] navelofwine only a smidge in person through the force of mutual friends and mutual alma mater, but certainly not through the same folks as with [Unknown site tag]...
