It's my first ball of yarn on the wheel! I was having trouble yesterday, but today I switched some of the pieces so I'd be spinning on a larger and slower-moving bobbin. Then I decided that instead of using the Icelandic roving that came with the wheel, I'd use my merino wool, since the merino is a lot smoother, and it's easier to spin with better fibers.

And my efforts paid off. And now I can spin. It's not 100% even, but as I got the hang of it, my spinning became more regular.

And now I have to figure out what to make out of this ball of yarn!

That's super cool! Do you feel like some sort of fairytale character when you spin? Like that girl in Rumplestiltskin?

A little. Though the fairy-tale spinning wheels are more like this (http://www.sheepstreet.com/elizabeth.jpg).

It would be cool if I could spin straw into gold, though.

spinning straw into gold would be a profitable venture. It could also help you land a handsome prince.

And then I could crochet him a golden kippah?

(Since obviously he has to be a handsome Jewish prince...)

Your yarn is BEAUTIFUL!! And I'm such a sucker for magenta. You must be so proud!! I prefer spinning the finer, smoother fibers like merino too. That is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!

Thanks! It actually wasn't as even as it looks in the picture. But I managed to turn it into a hat, anyways (well, it almost was enough, and then I had some of the same merino spun from my drop spindle and I used some of that for the last few rows.)
