I still feel like I have so much to do before going to Israel!

I'm mostly packed. I still need to put a few things in my backpack, as well as figure out what knitting projects I'm taking. Don't laugh. I need 6 weeks worth of knitting. Luckily, I have at least 3 kippah commissions. [I have to go find yours [livejournal.com profile] moss_raven. Unfortunately I sorta threw my stuff into bags while moving out, and now I'm not sure where it is. But hopefully I'll find it tomorrow and bring it with me.] I found it. It's coming with me. [[livejournal.com profile] hatam_soferet, if you know what you want on the next one, let me know ASAP so I can work on it while abroad.] And if anyone else has a kippah they want to commission from me, also let me know now. Kippot are small and transportable, and although I get sick of them, they're ideal for travel. Unfortunately, most of my knitting will stay home, as well as my spinning. I'm afraid the wool would just curl up and die in Israel.

Then I have to figure out next week in Jerusalem. If no one responds to my various e-mails tonight, I'm booking myself a room at the beit shmuel for the week, assuming it's not full already. But if anyone could host me for a day or two between the 21st and the 26th, please let me know. Especially for either shavuot or shabbat.

Then I have to figure out how I'm getting to the dig. I'm staying at kibbutz Nir David. I might be able to hitch a ride with the other archaeological folks, but I'm not sure. I haven't heard from Susan Cohen, the dig director, in a while. I e-mailed her. Hopefully she'll e-mail me back with either a "yes there's space for you" or "here's the bus you take, where you get off, etc." And her cell phone number would be nice as well. I should have called her office last week or the week before, but I was so busy with graduation.

Then I have to figure out the Shabbats while I'm on the dig. They let us out early enough to travel, so I can go anywhere that's not too far out. Anything in the middle of the country, or around the kinneret should be doable. I think.

Then I have to figure out whether or not I can stay with my cousins in the south at kibbutz Yahel for the last 10 days of my trip. Hopefully I can. Maybe I'll stop by Yotvata, since they'll still be digging, and they're right near my cousins' kibbutz. And I could get delicious Yotvata ice cream.

I guess that's it. But it's a lot of things up in the air, and I don't like things that are up in the air. I'm starting to panic. I even had a nightmare last week. IRL, the food on the dig is not specifically kosher. But I was able to survive China, so I assume Israel will be fine, considering that most ingredients in Israel are kosher. It's much easier to find kosher meat and cheese than it is to find unkosher stuff. And every kibbutz has a little store where you can buy food. I imagine that I'll buy things and eat vegetarian, and eat a lot of meat on shabbats to make up for it, since archaeologists need protein.

Of course, my nightmare was that there was nothing to eat...

But there are always vegetables. Always. I just have to remind myself I'll be fine.

And if anyone wants to reach me, my number in Israel is 052-605-7515 [011-972-52-605-7515 from outside of Israel].

I wish I still had people's numbers from last year...

You do kippa commissions? I know it seems kinda childish, but I really want a kippa with my Hebrew name in it--can we discuss this, your availability, how much, etc? :) E-mail me at wub@livejournal.com and it'll get redirected to my main e-mail address. :)

Also, how long are you going to be in Israel? :D

I'd offer to let you stay by us, but...my due date's coming up fast and my sister's going to be staying here. Would you like to come for Shavuot lunch, though?

Sure. Hopefully this time I'll have an easier time getting to your house than I did last year. I know a shorter route through katamon to get to Nachlaot. (hopefully I'll be closer than that...) Are you still in the same apartment that you were in last year? And I don't think I have your phone number anymore, so if you could e-mail it to me (theyellowhobbit[at]gmail[dot]com), that would be great.

hey... not sure when u'll be in israel exactly, or if you've left, but i'm going on birthright june 4-14. If i could somehow see you, that would be amazing. I can give you my itinerary and take your number in call when i'm there. I cant leave the trip, but you can join us for MANY things, including shabbats, but i'm not sure what you do for those anymore.
have a great time either way!

I'll be there then (on my dig.) I could possibly come into Jerusalem for the shabbat, since I can't leave the dig during the middle of the week. If we coordinated it ahead of time it's doable, since I wouldn't actually be able to call you on shabbat.

you can get a lot of protein as a veggie, too! Legumes and dairy products and eggs are wonderful things :)

Yeah. I plan on eating a lot of hard boiled eggs and cheese. I did that last year anyways, since even if I had meat for lunch, I was still very hungry at dinner time.

He's in my doghouse just now, I'm not in a mood to commission kippot for him. Maybe in a few months. Hope you have a super time in Israel :)

Fair enough. I think I have enough other kippot commissions to last me the 4 weeks, plus I'll bring one knitting project, as a reward for myself.
