I just got out of Death by Monge class, finishing off my last undergraduate semester. Kinda.

A lot of good things happened in the past 24 hours. So here's a synopsis:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Great Mashing crisis of 2007
We had no one to cover 10-11 as of 8:30 am this morning, which is when I headed off to my 9-"12" GIS class. I wasn't sure what to do, and was considering having them shut down the kitchen for that hour. A.A. told me that was unacceptable, but I didn't know what else I could do! Then I got a text saying that Barry was back and was going to mash 10-2. Which meant I still had my hour 2-3. But then Rob texted and said he could mash my shift. Thus, this afternoon was far less hectic than it could have been.
This all required texting back and forth during my GIS class, mind you. I had even set a new voice-mail message, so people would know to text me if they were part of this mashing emergency. Of course, my answering machine happened to confuse [livejournal.com profile] thedwardler, but oh well. I switched it again after I got out of class.
GIS
So it turns out even though all past work was due today, and I assumed I'd just get 0 credit for the week 08, Dr. Tomlin is letting us make up stuff (and if people want to raise their grades they can do extra work as well.) And he said he'll switch the week 07 from an IOU to an OK, so I only have to do week 08 now. And we learned how to do shiny things in class.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thesis
I've been working on this thesis a lot in the past month, and it has improved a lot since I handed in a draft for the prize. But the archaeologists who gave me their unpublished material, Stuart and Katy wanted to see what I had, so I sent it to them then, thinking "oh, it's a good draft." Only to realize no, it's not.

So I e-mailed them yesterday, saying that if they haven't read my thesis yet, don't, because I have a much better real draft coming by the end of next week. So Stuart e-mailed me back, saying a few days ago he flagged my e-mail [from march] to read my thesis, and thus, he has not yet read it, and will read what I send at the end of the semester. And I haven't heard from Katy, but I bet she hasn't gotten around to it either. They're full time professors. They have so many things they have to read.

So thus, that crisis was averted.

And [livejournal.com profile] maric23- if you're reading this and haven't read my thesis yet, same goes to you. [Well if you wanna help me edit, I have a draft coming up on Tuesday you could read. Otherwise, wait for the final.]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thesis 2
Ben had actually talked to Gerianne, asking how much time I had for the thesis. I'm not sure what she told him, but I have time, and that's what counts.
I don't need to give Ben the full draft until Tuesday. So I'm going to take a break for now and work on the Jewish Studies thesis. But I feel a lot less overwhelmed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm still going to try and keep up this pace of working for hours every night until I'm finished. And Sunday I'm probably going to GM's to have a homework party. But now I'm doing this more out of wanting to be finished than sheer desperation.

I'm graduating! I'm actually graduating!!!!

Up next: finding housing in Cambridge! And figuring out my summer craft curriculum, though my mom gave me some suggestions for that.

"goyim" is plural, actually...

And [livejournal.com profile] pocketnovel isn't a goy, though I have plenty of non-Jewish LJ friends. I just forget sometimes that I'm not always speaking English. I suppose my lj should have a glossary.

mashing= mashgiaching= kosher supervision in the dining hall. there always needs to be someone there, making sure that things don't go awry. So I'm one of the people in charge of that. Usually Barry, the full-time mashgiach, works during the day from 8am-4pm, or 3:30 on friday afternoons, and students work the rest of the time. But this week he's had to go away and stuff, so basically it means that I get screwed.

Ahhh, I see--Wash U always just hired people to do that, Chabad threw a fit over anything less.

Well our kitchen is open too many hours to always have non-students. And the vaad of philly is fine with us, and Chabad doesn't control Penn, we have a strong Modern Orthodox community.

That's really cool, Modern Orthodoxy is practically invisible at Wash U. Everyone is either Chabad or "culturally Jewish." It was kind of frustrating.

:-/ I'm going to have to flake, I suspect. Wedding planning + job hunt + fiancee = very little time. Especially when leaving the country in a week and a half.

Sorry! Small chance I'll get to it, but... yeah :(
