Shabbat was fun, quiet, and not so eventful, though I did play an interesting game of Risk in which we ended with a stalemate. It was time for shalshuddis, and I don't think either of us would have won, though we were at the point of amassing ginormous armies. What happens when you run out of risk cards? Do you start over? Do the numbers keep growing?
I ended up breaking the 10th of Tevet fast around 1, because I was feeling sick. So I went to my grandma's brunch with the Silverbergs (a family who my grandmother has been friends with forever). There were a lot of Silverbergs there, and I didn't know everyone's name, but they all knew who I was, even though none of them had seen me since I was like 12! But the brunch was fun.
Then my Mom and I left and went yarn shopping at Michael's. I really wanted to go to another shop that might have had alpaca wool, but alas, they were closed. And I got some dishcloth cotton at Michael's as well as some other stuff.
Then there was a New Year's party that the Sliverbergs have every year. They were singing broadway tunes, but I managed to slip out and a few of us played apples to apples and then scrabble. Apples to apples was 3 little kids and 3 people in our 20s. Of course, most of my cards were wasted on the kids, who didn't get half of the references. It was pretty darn sad.
And scrabble was fun, though I didn't end up doing so well. This guy John, who speaks like 5 languages, ended up beating the rest of us by a lot.
And then the year ended, and I'm nowhere closer to being finished with my thesis...
Today was mostly spent knitting, though at one point mom and I went out to get a new suitcase for me to bring to China, since my current one is quite dead. My new one is bright turquoise, so it should be easy to spot on the conveyor belt.
