My voice is semi-gone. It's really hoarse, and my throat hurts, and I was nauseous this morning, and I'm dizzy now, and I've been coughing a lot.

It wouldn't matter, except I'm finally leading kabbalat shabbat this week after waiting 10 months. And now I'm sick!!!!!

I'll still do it, even if it kills me. But now it won't be half as much fun.

perhaps, but it could also get worse. I can't predict it, except that things normally lean in the direction of "logistical nightmare" when it comes to my life.

what exactly would be the point of that?
if you still have a sore throat and hoarse voice on friday, leading kabalat shabbat will seriously suck for both you and the rest of CJC.
why not just rest up and lead at the womens one the week after?

because i've been waiting 10 months to lead for cjc. and i won't get another chance to do a cjc one. ever.

and if i thought it would suck, i wouldn't do it. but my opinion that the quality of kabbalat shabbat is determined by the amount of energy and singing (and good tunes.) i'd rather have an energetic service led by someone with a bad voice than a service where someone with a good voice does a lot of chazzanut and no one can sing along.

really i'm starting the prayers and driving them along. very litte of it would be just me singing.

and even with a sore throat i can still sing in key

my throat (and nose, and ears) started getting better as soon as i went to the doctor and got medicinces. i was able to go to work the next day, and the day after that i could use my voice well enough to teach whole classes.

Take zinc lozenges or zinc in any form, and vitamin C in any form other than lozenges.

And of course, rest and fluids.

Feel better!
