So yesterday I went up to NY to visit AG, since I otherwise wouldn't be seeing her until the end of November. She called me on Tuesday, telling me that she had been invited to a Sukkah meal at [livejournal.com profile] hatam_soferet's house and did I want to go to it. I said "sure!"

So we went. And there were a bunch of cool people there. And I finally got to meet [livejournal.com profile] hatam_soferet. And I think the entire meal we talked about Jewish stuff. Most of the people there were rabbinical students or the spouses of rabbinical students. I followed along with most of the stuff we talked about, though there were a few things in Hebrew/Aramaic that I hadn't heard before and couldn't translate, and was a little lost, but oh well.

[And the sukkah meal was in their apartment, since it was raining really really hard.]

By the way- the bike taxis are from New York, and are going back there after Chase bank is done with the ad campaign. And I got a free ride to 30th street station!

I guess I'm a little more impulsive than most people. Most people won't just go up to NY for a few hours (when it's a 2.5 hour ride each way) even if they don't have class. Unless it's for a job interview or a wedding or something like that. But I like getting away from campus, and having the feeling that I can get away whenever I want, and I'm not trapped here.

That's the beauty of living in a city. I don't need a car for most things, and I can either walk, or bike, or take SEPTA. Growing up when I wanted to go somewhere, I needed to be driven. Once I could drive I was free, but I couldn't just randomly take off. And this summer we sometimes had to share cars, so there were some times where I was stuck at home for a few hours. Almost nothing is in walkng distance in Barrington.

I've often wondered what would happen if I just started walking, and kept on going. Where would I end up? Who would I meet? I would love to take a road trip some time. Anyone want to go on a road trip during December break? (I have nothing else to do, besides research, which is highly overrated.)

And I got most of the kippah done on the train. I only have 3.5 more colored rows to go, and then one more row after that. I've been going at the rate of about a row an hour with the pattern. Maybe I should work on that now, so I can get it done tonight. I'll post a picture when it's done, though it's the same pattern as from Raphi and Dassi's wedding, just with different colors.
