So I called wal-mart, and they don't have the TZ1. So I called best buy. No one picked up in the cameras department. So I called again for general customer service. No answer. I tried 2 or 3 more times, each with a different department, and no one ever picked up!

Meanwhile, the store is open today, if you think maybe I was calling when it's closed. I give up.

Ok. So now what?

*edit* [livejournal.com profile] platypuses may be able to drive me on Thursday, but odds are that she can't. Circuit city is pretty much impossible to get to SEPTA-wise. I've already wasted over 2 hours today, and I was supposed to finish the Mary Douglass reading, write about it, read Neusner's book on purity, write about that as well, and write about Ronny Reich's article.

Maybe I should buy one of those cheap digital cameras for the time being (like something that I can get for under 50$) so at least I don't go crazy without a camera, and then I don't have to rush my decision.

I guess the question is do I really need the nicest camera I can get for under 300$? After all, I'm not a professional photographer. I'll be doing tons of archaeology, but the digs themselves have real people to take pictures. Safi's are mostly done by the director, Aren Maeir. Dor's are done by Howard (with the help of his adorable daughter Sydney). So mostly it'll be used for taking pictures of kippot, friends, cats, scenery (in Israel mostly) and random things, such as your mom the "Sruce Street" garbage bins, or the sprinklers that go off in the rain, or my new apartment. Would I really need a shiny camera with shiny macroness and shiny zoom and shiny megapixelage? (Well ok, I definitely need good megapixelage and good night mode, regardless of what I get.)

Then I might approach this from a different angle. Instead of "what is the best camera I can get?" I could ask "what is the best camera I can get under 250$ that is worth the money paid for it?" There are actually some places online that sell the TZ1 for less than 300$, but some have bad ratings and most have no ratings. I'm not against spending the 300$, since after all I do have all that mashing money (not yet, but whenever the month is over and I get my paycheck. I'll definitely get over 200$ [25 hours=200$ and I already have 21, plus there's rosh hashana and my permanent shift.] I might make the money for the entire camera! Though my parents were going to pay for it, so I'll ask them to donate maybe 150-200$ to it. And then I have spending money. Yay!) But if it's unnecessary, why bother? Should I just look for the nicest camera under 250[maybe even 200]$?
