Ok. Sorry for the profanity in the title, but I think it's well-deserved.

I hate verizon and I hate UPS.

So I ordered DSL from verizon, and they were supposed to ship a modem for me, via UPS. It never came.

So I called verizon office, and of course got stuck on their evil automated voice-activated answering thing. It wouldn't even let me talk to a person when I said "operator!" No, because in order to put me with the "correct" agent, they had to throw me through the cycle again. (Though I did managed to get the tracking number.)

Then when I talked to the agent, he was very unhelpful. He said to just call UPS.

Meanwhile, when I tracked my package, it said it was in West Chester, PA. Which is right outside of lower merion, but that doesn't help me, seeing as I lack a car. And when I called UPS, they were closed, because it's labor day. And they apparently had tried delivering the package, and the apartment number was missing or wrong, even though I had given verizon Penn Hillel's address (215 s.39th street) since I didn't want to have to stay home to accept the package, especially when I didn't know when it would arrive.

And who gives UPS the address but verizon?

So I'm pissed off because there's literally nothing I can do right now. And I'm getting sick of this on-off internet access I'm getting, and if I'm paying for DSL that I'm not able to use, well that just sucks.

Now I have to wait until tomorrow and for now do 25 billion other things.

My method is the hackerish/Linux way to set up verizon DSL- Throw out the CD that comes with the kit, go to http://dslreg.verizon.net from some random wireless AP, sign up for a username/password, put that into your wireless router PPPoE settings, and you're done.

I suspect that if you don't use a router or if you use Windows, following their instructions might work out better.

I'm not at work, but I'm not planning to swing by that area till the 5pm thing.
