Why I hate SEPTA
Aug. 30th, 2006 01:51 amToday I decided to visit
boroparkpyro in NYC. Getting there was easy enough. I had enough time to buy round trip tickets (and save a bit of money) and I crocheted a lot on the bus as well as made a dent in my Mary Douglass reading. In fact, I probably accomplished more than I would have in the library!
Anyways, we went to Nargila, the new restaurant that has replaced Dougie's, and it was pretty good. We also walked around a lot, though
boroparkpyro's legs started to get sore. Meanwhile, I was fine because of my super-archaeology strength. We ended up taking the subway to Penn Station and chilled until my train arrived.
Now keep in mind that bad planning had left me stranded in Trenton once before. So I looked up, before I left, the schedule, so I could take a NJT train that matched up with a SEPTA one.
My train left at 9:35 and got into the station before 11. I was pretty sure there was supposed to be a train around then. (Apparently I looked it up wrong). There was no train until 12:10. I was there for an hour!
And there was an annoying group of loud teenagers and a small girl who wouldn't stop screaming.
But I perservered, and crocheted a lot, and then read Terry Pratchett when my hands started to hurt from the crocheting.
Now my head feels like it's in a vice, so I'm rewarding myself with tea.
Points, for those of you keeping track:
SEPTA: 1000 (or more, but these are corrupted, evil, stolen points)
Me:-20
Tea: +1 HP
boroparkpyro: +10
taylweaver: +2, since anyone stranded in Trenton at night derserves something for their troubles and bravery.
(Anyone else who has been stranded in Trenton at a sketchy hour, feel free to comment and I'll give you points as well.)

Date: 2006-08-30 02:17 pm (UTC)Second, yeah, I have had that problem with the trains in Trenton. Actually, the SEPTA trains usually run more often than NJT - every half hour for NJT's once an hour. So I once got stuck in the opposite direction - on the way back to NJ. I read the schedule *correctly* - and then the NJT train had issues and so all of us - a ton of people who meant to transfer - had to wait an hour for the next scheduled train.
And yes, I did get some reading done - but then it got dark out. (I guess you managed to find better lighting than I did)

I didn't read during the time I was stranded. Believe me, it was quite dark out and sketchy out. I was on the phone with
I thought NJT ran more often than Septa! Even if Septa does run every half hour, at night it's every hour. And then after 10:30 I guess there's nothing until 12:10.
But there was a train, sitting there, with closed doors, taunting me!
Why can't they have an 11:15 train? It might not make them much money, but then again then people wouldn't be shot while stranded in Trenton, and live customers usually pay more than dead ones. Trenton is so sketchy!
