Thesis Update
May. 23rd, 2006 02:27 pmI talked to David Stern yesterday, which required biking down to 4th and Walnut. I managed to get caught in traffic. On a bike. Yes, it is possible.
Anyways, he gave me a lot of different sources to find.
And I've come to the conclusion that my 2 theses will be very different. Both will still be about mikvahs, but the Jewish studies one is barely going to touch on the archaeology, if at all, since it's going to be covering bigger questions of halacha. I guess whatever I come up with in the anthropolgy one about cultural influence can get put into this thesis. But I see an overlap of maybe 10 pages tops in that direction.
What I can do is I can use the Jewish studies stuff in my background for my anthropology thesis. Which will be nice.
But these are 2 separate papers. And they will each be around 50 pages. Which means I'll need to write 100 pages!!!! [90 if I can use everything I have from my 10-page paper.]
Sleep is for the weak (though I got up at 11 today...)

Date: 2006-05-23 10:30 pm (UTC)Ben had e-mailed me telling me that if he were to be my advisor next year (which he is, well one of them) I would have to write 2-4 pages on whatever we would read for that meeting, and we'd meet every other week. He doesn't want me "binge writing."
I almost responded (and then thought better of it) that I had a brilliant idea (and oh, was it brilliant):
You know NaNoWriMo? National Novel Writing Month? Well there you need 50,000 words, which ends up being like 100+ pages. So why not NaThWriMO? National Thesis Writing Month. The ultimate in binge writing. I could do it
Which I guess is essentially what Barry did. Only more insane.
And I also hopefully will take notes on everything, which would mean that I'd have that all on my computer, and everything can be copied and pasted.
I was going to do work today... Oh well.
