This summer I was choosing between digging at Tel Yotvata and Tel Zahara, both of which excavate at approximately the same time. Yotvata is in the south, and run by The Jodi Magness. Zahara is near the Galilee, run by a friend of Ben's named Susan Cohen. Yotvata's advantage was that it's the Jodi Magness, who is really smart and studies Qumran and things that relate to my thesis and is awesome, and it would be a great professional opportunity. Zahara is a much smaller dig (under 20 as opposed to 50ish) and if they got funding, I would have free room and board. The kibbutz isn't kosher, but I survived China, so this will be nothing in comparison.

So I sent off my Yotvata application this week, and I had written Susan Cohen a while back. I just found out today that they did recieve funding!

So I'll be digging there, and I only have to pay 2-500$ to help cover excavation costs, which is nothing in the scheme of excavations. And since I booked my flight in advance, I could use frequent flyer miles, and so the flight is free.

So I'll be in Israel from May 21-July 4th. And it'll be awesome.

In other news, people are idiots. Today there were a lot of drunk people outside my building celebrating St. Patrick's Day. The problem was that there is this little staircase on the side of my building that leads to the basement. And as I walked by, I saw this guy urinating there. Meanwhile, I'm sure he could have gone in the bathroom of the bar next door. Or something.
