Oh, happy egal-land, how I love thee.

On Friday night [livejournal.com profile] boroparkpyro and I went to an egalitarian Sephardi shul. They sing everything! They alternate verses of shir ha shirim, and different people do different parts of the services, and their tunes are so cool! I loved it.

And I also learned that I had learned [livejournal.com profile] boroparkpyro's Yaq Ribon wrong, since I learned it the way that [livejournal.com profile] alanscottevil taught me [it's here]. Which isn't necessarily bad, I mean I like it and it's much more singable, but I like the original better. And these are sung by [livejournal.com profile] boroparkpyro and [livejournal.com profile] alanscottevil respectively, so everyone can listen to them. Go listen!

I felt bad about perpetuating the tune in the non-original, but oh well, there's nothing I can do.

But I found out later that A.G., whose house I was staying at again, and [livejournal.com profile] tobeginagain were at shalshuddis together and [livejournal.com profile] tobeginagain sang the Yaq Ribon and A.G., who had learned it from me, was like "I know something similar to that..." And it was the other version of the song. And that was amusing, because everyone I know knows everyone else I know and now they all know Yaq Ribon. Yay!

I leined revii at Kedem yesterday. It went ok, though I messed up some vowels. But oh well. They asked if people wanted to organize an eicha reading, so I stayed for that conversation, and we organized it, and I'm leining the second perek! Yay! Of course, now I have to go and learn eicha trope...

There also was an announcement that there would be no Kedem this week. So there's an underground rebellion and there will be a non-Kedem minyan this coming week. So I will be [non] leading probably [non] shacharit. [Non] whee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This makes up for not being able to lead maariv this past shabbat since I only was informed of the existence of this service on Friday afternoon and I had already made the plans to go with [livejournal.com profile] boroparkpyro to services and dinner.

And I very much like my happy egal land. I feel like I can be myself here, which I can't necessarily say is true for the Orthodox world.

And I saw Shlomo before shabbat. And I asked him if he had heard about me becoming egal and he said he had [he had asked about various Penn people and apparently I was one of them.] But he said that whoever had told him had also said that I was much happier now. Which I am. [Though a friends-locked post will come about happiness in a moment, or when I get to it...]
