*sorry if I misspelled the Hebrew in the title, and if I get any of this ceremonial Jewish stuff wrong, feel free to correct me*

On Sunday I went to Miles and Adina's wedding. The ceremony was really beautiful. A local Jewish rock band, פד, played during the ceremony, and also before and after.

Adina looked really beautiful in her dress. Before the ceremony, while the men are looking over the ketubah, the contract, the bride sits in a chair, and everyone comes up and greets her. She gives blessings to people. Adina blessed me that I'd do well in school, have whatever makes me happy, and, in the right time, find my bashert.

All the men came down after the signing of the ketubah and Miles saw Adina, and put the veil back over her face. This is called the badekan, checking the bride. It's based on the story in Genesis where Jacob was tricked into marrying Leah. Now we check, so people marry the person they were expecting.

The actual ceremony involved drinking wine, saying certain blessings, and having the bride walk in a circle around the groom 7 times. This all took place under the chuppah, the wedding canopy, which in this case was a tallis raised up on 4 poles.

After the bride and groom are officially married, they go into yichud, which is when they are in a room, by themselves, for the first time together.

When they came out, there was a lot of dancing. People did crazy things, like lighting hats on fire and stuff, in order to cheer the bride and groom, which is a mitzvah. I had a lot of fun.

When I said goodbye to Gershom [who at least acted like he was running the whole thing] he was like "soon by you" which he said meant that he hoped soon it would be my wedding that we'd all be rejoicing at. I was like "as soon as I find the right guy..."

That's thr problem with weddings like this. They just make me want to be married even more than I already do, which is a lot.
