So for the first time in forever I got to take a break from Penn and have Shabbat in Bala Cynwyd.

I stayed with Aleeza and Gershom Ben Shalom, who I had stayed with in November. It was a really exciting weekend. Their good friend Adina is getting married tomorrow, so today we had the Shabbas Kallah. I'm not sure how to describe it to non-frum people. I guess it's like a frummy bridal shower where there's singing and d'var torahs, and everyone gives the bride a blessing...but no presents, since you can't give presents on Shabbat.

Aleeza actually invited me to Adina's wedding, so I'm going. Whee!

Friday night I had dinner at the Greenberg's house. They're the family that Andrea Levine boards with. They're really really nice, and the food was good, and Rabbi Greenberg requires everyone to give a D'var Torah, though you get an exemption if it's your first time, and theres the couple rule- only one person in a couple has to give a D'var, though both are encouraged to. I love it when black hatters support women giving divrei Torah. You would expect the opposite based on sterotypes and stuff. But the women in this community are actually very learned, I'd say more so than a Reform Rabbi.

Saturday morning was chill. I woke up at 10:30 [sleep, glorious sleep!] and missed davening. Lunch was nice. We had the kallah Adina and 2 of her friends from Livnot [Israel program for people who come from non-observant backgrounds].

Then there was the Shabbas Kallah, and afterwards I went to [livejournal.com profile] jtersesk's house to chill and play with her 3 adorable cats-Tipol, Jacy, and Ari. Last time I was over Ari completely ignored me, but this time he was nice to me. [I told Ari Levine a few minutes ago how Jessica has a cat named Ari, and how he was cooler than Ari Levine because he's a cat and Ari Levine isn't. Ari thought I was being weird, but I suppose that's justified].

Since Gershom is currently Miles' [the groom] shomer [guardian] he couldn't be at the house for Havdallah, since Adina was there and the bride and groom can't see eachother for an entire week before the wedding. We had an all-girls havdallah, which was awesome. I'm trying to think if I've ever done that before, and I don't think I have. Usually I'm at Hillel, or if I'm with a family they wait for the husband to get back.

So now I'm back here, and Julie's B-day party is in 20 minutes. Afterwards I might pull an all-nighter to knit Adina a scarf as a wedding present. I'm not sure it's doable, but I can at least try.
