The new rules of Shomer[et] Nagiah.
Aug. 21st, 2004 10:38 pmI had a great Shabbat at the Stark's.
The following conversation happened on the ride home:
Dad: So I wasn't sure whether or not I should have shook Mrs. Stark's hand
Mom:Well she shook your hand...
Me: That doesn't mean anything
Mom: Rabbi Levine shook my hand at the wedding because he's Modern Orthodox
Me: They[the starks] are modern Orthodox, too. I'm Modern Orthodox. Being Shomer doesn't necessarily mean you don't shake hands.
Dad: Well I thought only girls had to be Shomer Shabbas
Me: **shocked look that they didn't see, being in the front of the car** Um, it's shomer nagiah, and both guys and girls have to be shomer.
My family. It's crazy. Yeah.
