Yes, I know, I've neglected the LJ for a while. But I've had good reason to, that being that I've actually been sleeping lately, so I haven't been staying up till 2am iming people, which is when I update the LJ. So...what happened...

Sunday I mostly hung out around the house online. It was the 4th of July. I had to be out of the apartment that night, so I called Shulamit. We were going to have salad for dinner. Then, Alan called and asked if we could have apple pie, since it was the 4th, after all. We said ok. Of course, Shulamit and I were under the impression that he was going to bring the apple pie. Neither of us really wanted to spend money. But Alan's idea was to go out to Masrik. Which ended up being good, although they were out of apple pie. They forgot to include my bread thingy on the check, and when Alan pointed it out to them, they didn't add it, so I only ended up paying 15 shekels for my iced coffee.

Monday was interesting, to say the least. I spent the afternoon in the old city, though I stopped by HUC on the way there and said hi to Terry. In the old city I ended up running into Rafi Cohn. Penn is taking over the world.

That night I attempted to make breaded tofu. It didn't come out so well. The first batch was soggy and tasted bad, though I realized 2 days ago that what I thought was olive oil was actually vinegar, so that might have had something to do with it. *cough* Akane *cough* [For those of you who don't know, that was a Ranma reference.]

Then I started anew with a second batch, which was actually in oil this time. The oil wasn't sizzling, though. Then I noticed smoke, so i ran teh frying pan under water. I was doing dishes at the time, so the water was hot. Oil splattered everywhere. I got my nalgene and poured out the cold water on the pan... The plastic thingy on on the bottom of the sink to keep it milcheig was burnt, but I didn't notice until later. The room smelled really fumy, despite me having all the windows open, plus the fan on, and I felt sick. I also managed to burn my right hand a bit (which still has some spots on it.) I was hysterical, as both Ari and Brett can attest to. And you know it's a bad sign if people can tell that I'm hysterical over aim.

So I cleaned up and got dinner at Pizza Meter, which was miraculously still open at 11:30 the night before a minor fast. I was too tired to really think about drinking water that night, and there was no way in hell that I was going to wake up at 4am to drink before the fast.

Tuesday, 17th Tamuz

Well, I can't say that the fast was fun. It was the first day of Pardes, though, so I got to meet new people, which was fun.

Pardes got out at 12:30, so I went home. I napped for 2 hours and then woke up even more tired. So I drank a little water, even though technically you're not supposed to. Then again, I probably was dehydrated, so you could say it was pikuah nefesh.

That morning and that evening I went to shul on Yael street. It was the first time I had been to a non-shabbat minyan since Penn, unless you count the 2 times Pardes had an egal minyan. I realized then how much I missed davening with other people around.

That night, I went out with Dassi, Atara, and Aaron from Penn Pac to the Coffee Shop to break the fast. The food was surprisingly good. I had a mango shake with a little alcohol and a bulgarian sandwich. We had ice cream afterwards, and when I got home, I went to sleep right away, being tired.

Wednesday was the first day of classes. I think I chose well, though Intermediate Talmud might end up being too challenging, but at the same time Beginner's is for someone who hasn't studied Talmud at all, and it's in translation. After learning for a semester with a Shteindzaults'  I didn't want to go to something easier. Though now we're using a normal Talmud, like a Vilna Shas or whatever it's called. I wish there was something in between!

Afterwards I was going to go out, but everyone was being boring and staying in. I ended up going to bed at 10, because I was ubertired.

Yesterday I went to Yael's Bibliodrama, which was good, though next week I may do Parshat HaShavua. After lunch I went to Nadav's graduation ceremony for completing the 1st part of Officer's training, although he still needs to finish one test.

We went out for dinner afterwards, and when I got home again I was ubertired, and I went to bed at 11. What is wrong with me?

Today I woke up at 6 and after showering and spending a few hours online I went shopping for food. This time I lucked out and spent a lot less than normal. The salad stuff ended up costing a total of 21 shekels, the waffleim were 10 and the challot were 14 total. So 45 shekels for 2 meals and a shalshuddis...A lot better than if I had spent 40 for the Pardes meal and then the 21 for lunch and the 10 for shalshuddis. I'm going to start salading by 12:30.
