B'eretz Yisrael
May. 25th, 2004 03:09 pmBelieve it or not, but I actually made it to Israel, all by myself, and found a sheirut here and found the apartment and everything. Yedida, my roommate, is really nice.
So to get to the airport, my parents hired a driver service, which was really sketchy. I was the only one who didn't speak Spanish, and they made all these random stops.
At the airport, I ran into Andrew Manor and his [older I think] brother. They're going to be volunteering for Magen David Edom in Ashdod. I'm glad I ran into them, because it would have been very sad to have been all alone.
The stewardesses on the plane kept on talking to me in Hebrew. They said I looked Israeli.
I was in the very back of the plane, so the Black Hatters were davening ma'ariv [and shacharit, which I slept through] right next to me. I joined in from my seat with my mini art-scroll. I'm done counting the Omer!
I only got 2 hours of sleep, because I kept on waking up. Surprisingly, I'm not tired, though if I pull an all-nighter, it may kill me. I'll nap when Yedida gets back so I can tell her to wake me up.
When I got to the apartment, a hot guy in a knit drove by and asked if I needed help with my stuff, which I did, since we're on the top floor! [It's only like 5 flights though, so it's fine...without the suitcases.] That's what I love about Israel. Hot Modern Orthodox guys who are willing to lend a helping [perhaps shomer] hand. I never got the chance to ask him what his name was. Oh well.
Turns out Yedida knows Bonnie, and that Bonnie is still in Israel. I might call her now, though things are crazy in her apartment, so I could wait until after chag.
And I'm not yet sure if I'm celebrating 1 or 2 days of Chag. Avi and Rachel are staying at Dassi's house, and they're celebrating 2 days, so I could join them if I wanted to. If I could figure how to post to the newsgroup from this computer, I'd ask them. None of my "halachic advisors" are online. Them must still be asleep or something.
