Ok. that was weird. I thought I just posted something, but lj ate it.

I talked to Ben today, who said that tel es safi would be better for getting into grad school in Israel, and that it was a better dig than dor in general.

But Dor is longer and starts earlier. So the current plan, if it works out b'ezrat Hashem, is to do 3 weeks of dor and then 4 weeks of tel es-safi. [If I were really insane I could do the Brown program after that, but I'm not insane.]

Then fly home, with a layover in Hungary.

Which will mean seeing 3 lj people who I've never met IRL yet- [livejournal.com profile] yadfothgildloc, [livejournal.com profile] prezzey and [livejournal.com profile] miou_viscioso.

He also e-mailed me a book to start my thesis research with. I can also use this for my 10 page research paper for this class.

I do not work in the field (my g/f does), that is other than to tag along on a dig here or there. my impression is that working on a tel helps you get into a school that the tel is associated with most. or, provided you do a half decent job and don't putz around, it guarantees you an in for that school. On the other hand, I imagine that doing a dig in general helps for any school in Israel.

btw, we put together an official Es-Safi dig weblog if you are interested:

The reason why my teacher said that Es-Safi was better than dor for the grad school thing is because Dor is mainly run through UCal Berkeley and University of Washington, and Hebrew U is only minimally involved. Where as Es-Safi is a. smaller and b. primarily run through bar-ilan. Hopefully I'll get into grad school!

well they are both good digs. I imagine you will find people from various Israeli universities on both, regardless of who the dig is run by. It is making contact with people in Universities here that is most helpful. They can tell you who to talk to and potentially assist you in dealing with the procedures.
