Fame and Infamy
Jan. 10th, 2006 12:11 pmSo yesterday was infamy day.
Today, on my way out of Hellerstein's class, I saw
cynara_linnaea. I gave her half of her channukah present, which was a Sudoku calendar. She said I was evil, since now she would never do any work. Then:
cynara_linnaea:I called you earlier.
Me: I was in class, what's up?
cynara_linnaea: In my folk art class we have to do a project on a folk artist, and I want to do mine on you and your kippot.
Me: I'm a folk artist now? Cool.
So I will be the subject of a 30-page paper and a presentation.
cynara_linnaea told her professor how I made a set of matching kippot for the "Ralphi and Dassi" wedding. Ralphi!
I guess the definition of folk art is something that denotes being part of a group, and shows social status.
Anyone who would wear a kippah is Jewish. Anyone who would wear a kippah srugah is probably Modern Orthodox, Conservative, or relatively left-wing Yeshivish. Anyone who would wear a kippah srugah with The Cheat on it is one of the above, plus a nerd. But a cool nerd, because everyone loves The Cheat! Hence the social status. And maybe someday I will have people asking if something is an authentic Rachel Adler.
OMG! This idea just hit me: I want to make a magical trevor kippah! Would anyone wear a magical trevor kippah?

Date: 2006-01-10 12:02 pm (UTC)I've been meaning to ask about Magical Trevor ever since someone showed me the full animated clip. What is that from? A TV show? (I must admit, when I first saw it, I thought it had something to do with Neville's toad.)

Date: 2006-01-10 03:41 pm (UTC)Yes, I know Magical Trevor is your main lj icon; that's where I first saw him. Then, another friend on my flist used it for a short time, and I really began to wonder.
Finally, a few weeks back, yet another person on my flist complained because she couldn't get the song out of her head. (It does tend to stick. My middle kid is right now singing, "Look at him now, disappearing the cow.")
"What song?" I asked. I'd been wondering about this Magical Trevor for a while already. She sent me the link. So then I started wondering if that was from a TV show, but I didn't get a clear answer. So what is it? Just a cute animation that's popular online?

Date: 2006-01-10 07:41 pm (UTC)I think I prefer "Magical Trevor." Did you notice how the cows chew their cuds? And I could never show "Kenya" to my kids. Ick, that dead zebra!
