So I flew in to Philadelphia this morning at 11:00am. I was on Southwest. They gave out these 1$ promotional gift cards to McDonald's. Which doesn't do me much good with that whole kashrut thing.

So when I was walking out of 30th street station, I saw a homeless guy and gave it to him, which made him happy. And he could only use it for food. [Usually I have reservations giving money to homeless people, because they might use it irresponsibly, but I have no problems giving them food.]

What if the homeless guy was Jewish and you're helping him to not keep kosher, eh???

then he could use it to buy a glass of soda... and i'd rather a jewish homeless guy break kosher so he can eat than use the money for alcohol or drugs. i'm pretty sure the breaking kosher would be more halachically ok in that situation.

You could have gotten a coke at McDonald's! Eep!

But yes, using it for tzedaka is even better.
