This weekend I went to Chicago for Dave & Beth's wedding. It was beautiful and amazing, and I am so happy that I got to see them get married and begin their new life together.

My flight got in at 11:30, and I was picked up with Simone and Atara, by Alana Jackson, a friend of Beth's who is also Sarah Meyer's friend, and maybe you know her as well, [livejournal.com profile] tobeginagain.

Atara went to the place she was staying, Simone went to her friend Yaakov's house [though she was staying where I was], and the person I was staying with, Adina, was at the mall, so I joined her there. Her friend Cathy was also there. Both are very nice girls. I ended up buying a top for the outfit I wore to the wedding [I have no pictures, but I'll eventually get one of my outfit since it's pretty and I'll wear it again.] And I got 3 pairs of shoes- one pair of gold sandals with beads on them for 8.00$ at Claire's, a pair of sandals that were purple and beaded [that perfectly match my shiny purple skirt according to everyone] and a pair of sandals that lace up the leg, since I've always wanted them. They are soooo pretty! But very impractical. I have to figure them out so I can wear them soon, since I really like them.

We also stopped at walgreen's so I could get girl stuff, since I got my period on the plane [after 9 weeks!] Unfortunately that meant I couldn't wear my old navy white flowy skirt, for obvious reasons. I had really bad cramps all weekend, especially on Shabbat when I couldn't take medicine, and I was in a lot of pain. I hate my period, but I was so glad to get it after that long.

Rebecca Fishman and Livia were also staying at Adina's. They got there around 4-ish. We all got ready, but by the time we got to shul services were over, since they did a very early shabbat, so as not to have Dave and Beth accidentally see eachother. Beth has a really cute sister named Cindy who looks exactly like her [minibeth!] and she can cook, so we decided she had to come back to Penn with us. She was attached to Beth when we walked back to shul, which again was really cute.

Friday night dinner at Beth's was delicious, though I didn't eat a lot because I was feeling fat. Actually, I didn't eat much the entire weekend. I barely ate at the wedding because I was dancing, and most of the time I wasn't hungry, and even yesterday I didn't have so much since I got home at 3 [I'll explain] and didn't have lunch until then. It might be bordering on unhealthy, but I think I have a long way to go before my body starts eating itself.

Saturday morning I woke up, and Adina's dog Natalie starts bothering me, because she wanted to take a walk. Adina was asleep, so I decided to walk her [I had time before shul and again was feeling fat so I decided the exercise would be nice]. When I got back Adina was up, and Livia and Simone were ready for shul, so we walked together, though I went to the kollel to daven with Dave and the boys [and throw candy at them! Gotta love Judaism.]

Beth's parents were also at the kollel, so I sat next to Mrs. Pollack. I didn't know any of the other women. Guys there were Yoni Ray [I was confused because I thought they'd both be there, and it looked like Yoni, but I wasn't 100% sure when I said hi] Dan Baltusch, Aaron Lawee, Ellie Weiner and some of Dave's friends from Atlanta. Yosef was on the other side of Chicago, and Avi was laining where Beth was davening. Then he came over and Yoni had left, which really confused me. But when I saw them together I could tell them apart. Avi is the "better looking one." I personally think they're both equally good looking.

Lunch was also at Beth's. I ended up sitting next to Meira for both meals. She has contact lenses now, as does Yosef. Avi and Rachel were also there.

I slept in the afternoon and woke up just in time to go to the shabbas kallah. Of course, when I got there 5 minutes late only 5 or so people were there. Lisi Dredze was there. I didn't know that she and Beth were friends, but they are.

When Shabbat ended everyone eventually came over for shtick. Hillel Deutsch had come in from NY [if I had known I would have brought him his mail...] I gave Meira her scarf [which has one tiny mistake in it, but I didn't tell her and you can't really see it unless you look for it. It's hidden in the fuzziness] and started working on the hat for Josh Shaneson, which was about half done. Over a year ago, Dave had asked me to make it for Josh for some odd unknown reason, and he said he'd pay me, and thus I would be a professional knitter. I didn't finish it by the end of freshman year because I had trouble figuring out how to make it the right size, and then it fell off the double ended needles and I had to restart it. Dave paid me for supplies, but it wasn't going to be done. So it sat for a year since Josh was in Israel. Josh was coming to the wedding, so I had to finish it. And I did. And everyone thought it was extremely cool, and people wanted to try it on.

We watched Life of Brian instead of doing shtick, because we were lazy, and it was 1am. We didn't finish the movie, because we were tired and we had the wedding.

I woke up at 8:30 despite having my alarm set for 9:30. It took me a while to get ready because I couldn't decide how to do my hair, or what shoes to wear [I went for the slippers in the end]. Livia french-braided my hair. Mark's friend David [who had visited in March and name I remembered] picked up me and Simone, and the others went with the Rays.

When I got to the wedding, I gave the hat to Dave so he could give it to Josh. He wanted to pay me for labor even though he had already paid for supplies. He didn't have anything on him, so I said soon he was going to have Beth, but that probably wouldn't work. He's going to send me 15$ and I'm going to send him and Beth the blanket [I'm getting it on Thursday and I'll do the border then and send it off on its merry way].

When I talked to Beth, she gave me a bracha that basically said I should continue my learning and to be an inspiration to everyone [which she said I was at the Shabbas kallah] and that I have whatever makes me happy. I gave her a Bracha that she have a wonderful life with Dave, and that their house should always be filled with guests, and lots of divrei torah, and that she have many wonderful children- all legitimate. That made her laugh.

It's funny that anyone would find me an inspiration. Sure, I learn a lot, but if you think I have emunah, you really don't know me all too well. I know that if there is a G-d, then these are the laws that all Jews should be keeping. But I don't always believe G-d is good, or that He cares, or that He even exists. Sometimes I have problems with certain halachot, with the role of women in Judiasm, etc. So to have people think I'm inspiring is weird to say the least. I feel like a bit of a fraud. Not that I've pretended to be frummer than I really am. And I do feel flattered. If only I could inspire myself.

Then the boys all danced Dave in, and he saw her face and put the veil back on her and was danced out again. Then we all went downstairs for the chuppah.

There was a bit of a delay, as Dave did not have the traditional white wedding garment. They eventually found it, and Beth came in, and they played Tov Lehodot, and it was really beautiful. Rabbi Seif gave a nice speech. Beth looked sooooo beautiful. I can't believe they're actually married!

There was a lot of dancing. Like hours upon hours. Different people were in the middle with Beth, and I figured I probably wouldn't get to dance with here, but then she pulled me in. She's one of the nicest people I know. She's so kind to everyone. And her family is so nice, too.

I saw Josh with the hat, so Dave had given it to him. I asked him if he knew the story behind it, and he was like "no, Dave just handed it to me." So I explained how Dave had commisioned the hat from me, and I hadn't finished it last year, and finished it on Saturday night. Josh really liked it. He was wearing it off and on. I'm a bit surprised, considering it's a fuzzy hat. But if any guy would like a fuzzy hat it would be Josh Shaneson. I might be going to his house for Shabbat if it works out. He's going back to Israel September 1st.

After the wedding, we all went mini golfing. I was with Josh Schainker, Ellie Weiner, Hillel, and this girl Marne. I had been winning until the last hole, when Ellie told me I was I beating him by one point, and of course I screwed up the last hole. I still came in second. Then we had a minyan, and then I went home.

Getting back from the airport monday was a bit of an adventure. My flight got in 20 minutes early. So I got on a Lady Liberty shuttle to get home. Only problem was that EVERYONE else in the car was being dropped off at hotels, all but one of them in center city. My flight got in at 1:30, and I got home at 3! I learned my lesson. Next time I'll just SEPTA it.
