A weekend with GM
Jan. 21st, 2008 06:57 pmI still exist. After a whirlwind weekend with GM, I think I've recovered. Now to recount:
Tea Party:
So when I wrote in my Wednesday night entry about my two HRSFA-related errands, I was referring to prep for the Tea Party. Specifically, cutting and dying my hair. So now it is short and red.
So I picked up GM Thursday afternoon and then we got ready for the Tea Party. I had a white silk dress I bought in China, and I had tried it on last week in hopes that it might fit, and low and behold it fit better than it did when I was trying it on in China. So I wore it to the Tea Party. There are pictures that I might eventually post.
Not to sound vain and self-centered, since I'm usually not such a fan of my appearance, but I really did look good in the dress. Its goal was to capture everyone's attention and have everyone say "wow, Rachel looks really good in that dress" (the red hair was also for that effect, though I also need red hair for my Willow costume for Vericon). It almost succeeded. Well, it did succeed in that most people there liked the dress, but it wasn't quite so unanimous, and in one respect certain things exploded at the party, but everything was handled with tact and poise on my part and the rest is for another post. (Suffice it to say things didn't turn out as I'd like, but I survived, and now I'm over it.)
GM and I hung out for the rest of the night and watched Ocean's 11 and knitted and ate ice cream and chocolate. I should have been studying but I needed the break for my own sanity. Oh well.
Friday:
On Friday GM and I went grocery shopping for food for Shabbat as well as French Toast ingredients. Then I had an appointment, and then I got back home. We were hosting lunch on Saturday, and Friday night dinner was just going to be GM and me. Friday night dinner was the traditional meal of pizza and fries. We also had
inteluser and dsKC over for some gaming, and we had ice cream, and those of us over 21 consumed alcohol.
Saturday:
Saturday was a real lunch, and
navelofwine and
elfsdh came over, despite the fact that I live out in the middle of nowhere.
Afterwards, GM knitted and worked on the Monge blanket while I hung around wishing I could knit, and was counting down the minutes until Shabbat ended.
Shabbat ended. We worked on the blanket and watched Mansfield Park. I also taught GM how to play French Toast with some very amusing results. GM brings out my inappropriate side, which has been much-censored here at Harvard. It's not just that I feel like people might be offended, but it's more like I normally don't have anyone else to make inappropriate comments with. And it doesn't really work if I'm the only one...
On Sunday I took GM to the vintage store, and then we went to the yarn stores. I ended up buying some roving and some shiny sock yarn. GM bought stuff at the vintage store, but not at the yarn stores. But I gave her some of my soy silk that I was never going to be able to use, so hopefully she will turn it into something shiny.
There was also a Vericon meeting and MST3K afterwards. GM went out with another friend during the Vericon meeting but came to MST3K, and the two of us together was...interesting. Neither of us had seen the movie before (MST3K met during my Machinist class) but we were able to make some contributions that actually made it in.
We got home around 10:30 and I worked a bit more on the Monge blanket. We only have one more row to sew together, so I'm going to do that soon and then send it off.
Today:
We woke up early to get GM to South Station in time for her 8:20 train. After she boarded I headed to campus, and got to services early. When the others arrived, IC asked me to lead psukei. So I did. (I've never gotten to weekday services in time to lead psukei before. I'm always late, though I make it in time for Torah reading).
Then I worked in Lamont Library, and then we had "Verithon," a work-a-thon for Vericon. I got some homework done and some foodwork done, but I still have work.
I then met with KH for tea, which was shiny.
And then I went home and had dinner, and now I'm here and I should do work especially if I'm going back to campus for MST3K.
alishainchina was supposed to come for Shabbat this weekend but got stranded in Israel. I haven't heard from her since Thursday night and I hope she's okay. Hopefully she'll make it back!
