I just realized that me being done with the paper means I can pretty much play Katamari all day (when I'm not in class) for the rest of the semester. I just have one more scholarly reflection paper left and that's it until after break. I should probably start the Machinist paper now, though, so I don't die a horrible death in that class.

Also, because it is full of awesome, I present you with 1A Corinthians:

1. Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle by the will of God, and our brother Timothy, to the church of God that is in Corinth. 2. Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. Timothy, whom I sent unto you, has returned to me with news of your doings. 4. He reported that you have been zealous in carrying out my past words, distancing yourselves from those among you who are sexually immoral. 5. You have shunned the slave, for whom their body belongs to their master. 6. You have disallowed the slave from eating the communal meal, instead having them serve you. 7. You have disallowed them from entering the meeting house and joining you in worship, instead having them sit outside and listen. 8. Indeed, I predict that the words of this letter will not reach your slave brethren.
9. While such zeal in the name of the Lord Jesus is admirable, you have interpreted my words incorrectly. 10. For I did not mean for you to shun the slave. 11. If the slave among you is a brother or sister, they too are welcome in the kingdom of heaven. 12. Even a slave who lies with their master is not at fault. 13. If this is the reason you shun the slave, then God’s wrath will be upon you!
14. As it is written: 15. But if the man find the damsel that is betrothed in the field, and the man take hold of her, and lie with her; then the man only that lay with her shall die. 16. But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death; for as when a man riseth against his neighbor, and slayeth him, even so is this matter. 17. For he found her in the field; the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.
18. But if a woman has been raped, is she not polluted? Does she not pollute the body of Christ? How can she be embraced as a sister? 19. Do not say that she has fornicated. Fornication is not a matter of the body, but a matter of the heart. 20. For if a man take hold of a woman and lieth with her, he has fornicated in his heart, but she has not. 21. His actions pollute the body of the Lord, but hers do not. 22. Therefore, welcome the slave, male and female, even if their master is not a brother or sister. 23. For they must obey two masters, Christ, their master in the spirit; and their master of the flesh.
24. If you continue to have the slave serve you in the communal meal and bar him or her from the meeting house, God’s wrath be upon you! 25. For you are guilty of greed and laziness. 26. As I have told our brothers and sisters in Galatia, 27. “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.” 28. Let them eat amongst you, if only at the table closest to the kitchen. 29. Let them worship amongst you, if only in the back of the room. 30. For even if these distinctions exist outside of Christ, before Him you are one body.
31. Finally, do not lie with the slave-boy or the slave-woman! 32. I told our brethren in Thessalonica to obtain for themselves vessels so as to avoid sin, and they responded by lying with their slaves! 33. Do not err as they have. 34. A slave is not an extension of your body, even if the slave is not a believer.
35. I eagerly anticipate my arrival in Corinth. 36. I am currently in Macedonia, expect to see you shortly. 37. I know that you will have a bed prepared for me when I arrive.
38. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God be with you. 39. My love be with all of you in Christ.

There are footnotes in it that show where the translation departs from the [ficticious] Greek, in the style of the NRSV. Mostly this is with the gender-inclusive language they add, which I mimicked because I was bored and because it was amusing to write. Actually, the whole paper was amusing to write. Yay!

And the 99 Red Balloons story:

After German yesterday I went up to Dr. S. and told her that I had the song stuck in my head since Monday's class. She said that in "Grosse Point Blank" there was a main character who was a hit man. He was at his high school reunion, and at one point had to kill a bad guy and then he and his friend were throwing the body in the furnace in order to get rid of it, and in this scene, 99 Red Balloons was playing in the background, in German. And she thought, "why would they have a German song for a scene where they're throwing a body into a furnace...oh." But she decided against telling that story to the class, probably for good reason. Though it's surprising how many of our texts in this class are about people who were fighting against the Nazi regime.

*Edit* Also, my shiny new 3lb laptop is on the way! Yay!
