Shabbat at Brown with [livejournal.com profile] intangiblehugs was quite fun.

[livejournal.com profile] intangiblehugs led kabbalat Shabbat because YR was supposed to lead it but she was running late. So YR lead maariv instead. Both of them used really cool tunes for things that I wouldn't have thought of. It was the best Friday Night davening I've had in a really long time.

Dinner was really good, and there was lots of singing. Afterwards, [livejournal.com profile] intangiblehugs, a sophomore named E and I played pick up sticks. In the first game t took me a while to get any sticks, but once I did I did quite well and E and I ties with 12. In the second game [livejournal.com profile] intangiblehugs kicked both of our asses.

We went back to [livejournal.com profile] intangiblehugs' place around 10:40ish. I was high on caffeine and so everything was hilarious. Including her mom. Somehow I managed to practice leining before I went to bed.

Of course, this didn't stop me from screwing up the leining. The problem was also that there was this visiting rabbi who was gabbaiing, and he was sometimes correcting me before I chanted anything at all. The other person gabbaiing (another E, not to be confused with E of last night) gave me trop when I needed it. I was using [livejournal.com profile] boroparkpyro trop, and E2 knew it, or at least knew something similar to it and could give me trop. Huzzah!

After lunch I took a nap in the courtyard of Hillel. At around 2:50ish I woke up, and [livejournal.com profile] intangiblehugs and I went to see Shakespeare on the Green perform "A Comedy of Errors." They were really good, though they chose a bad venue- there was a loud fan in the background that made it hard to hear when the actors weren't nearby.

We stopped by [livejournal.com profile] intangiblehugs' hippie vegetarian coop. I had an apple (surprise, surprise.) And then we made an appearance at se'udah shlisheet for more singing. Yay singing!

And then we had havdallah, and then we saw this weird but cool show called So(l)una, which I'm not even going to try to explain.

In related news, I have my upper register back! Granted, it's not as good as it used to be (like pre-college) but it's something. It's nice to be able to sing notes and not always have to drop the octave and sing in guy range.

And I'm bringing a few shiny things back with me. Adler's didn't have any crock pots besides a tiny one, but my mom has one that she only used once, and says we can have it. It's fleishig. And it needs to be washed out since the one thing she made had MSG in it. Though it's always a good idea to wash things anyways... ([livejournal.com profile] currentlee if you want a crock pot of your own, we can have my dad order on at cost through the store. But this will be good in the meantime. It's a big crock pot of awesome.)

And we have an urn! Yay! (This means that my weekly honey consumption will increase by about 15% Possibly more since I'll be sitting around all Shabbat afternoon and might just drink more and more tea.)

And I have a new Leatherman to replace the Swiss Army knife that got confiscated in Israel. I'm not sure what to name it yet. ([livejournal.com profile] cynara_linnaea has a Leatherman named Penelope.)

And we have some pint-sized canning jars now.

And I have winter clothes. I can also use my sweaters as models to try and knit my own sweaters from them.

I still need new sweaters because I've had my old ones for years. But an unsuccessful trip to Old Navy gave me reason to believe that I really am going to have to knit them myself if I want something I like. Luckily I have lots of nice yarn. :)
