My throat has been sore to various degrees for the past few weeks. No fever or anything. Occasional sneezing. It's not so bad but today it got worse, and I'm starting to worry.

It doesn't help that I'm leading Yom Kippur mincha in less than a week. Why did you pick the most impossible key for me to sing in, DCP?! Why can't I transpose things anymore, brain? Where did my upper register go, vocal chords?

I met with RG today, and she thinks I'm in good shape for the service (though there are some things I need to go over with both the machzor and the recordings available to me at the same time). But there were a few passages that I just couldn't manage singing, and had to say "I know this, but it goes too high for me right now..." I tried. I really did. But I need my upper register back, as well as a healthy body. Unfortunately I might risk getting one at the expense of another. The more I practice, the more my range will grow, but the more I practice, the more strain I'm putting on my vocal chords.

That and right now I'm back to "I want to curl up in a ball and cry" mode. It just hit. It might be that ol' lack o' sunlight again. Maybe I should be completely diurnal and only be awake when the sun is up. Or eat more chocolate.

What is wrong with me?
