Fasting

I'm fasting. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

I've been blogging since I got home at 10:45 this morning (I could only stay in services for so long without dying of boredom, since the kinot are impossible to read after a while, and we weren't skipping any by the looks of it.) I've been refraining from knitting and watching TV. But at this point, if I've been online anyways, is there really a difference between that and watching TV and knitting?

My head hurts. I've been on and off feeling stomach pains while I've been fasting. Right now it's not bad and I'm just incredibly hungry. It doesn't help that I'm home, where there is a lot of food.

The fast goes so late! Like 9pm! I can't last another 6.5 hours without doing anything.

I think it's time to give up and watch Law & Order. Or read. Or something.

What in the world? Services at my shul were less than an hour and a half. What's the point of going so long?

I'm not sure knitting is allowed, if it's not allowed during the Nine Days, why would it be allowed on Tisha B'Av? You'll have to wait till tomorrow with that.

Read something, or watch TV (though I'd say reading is probably better, it's what I did for most of the day when I wasn't asleep). I've also been reading the news online, but that was horrible since there were several news items about food, eg. Romania has reserved EU protection for a national food that's eaten throughout the region (mostly by ethnic Hungarians, who had it reserved in Romania) but the Slovakians decided to challenge the protection. Or something. My brain is unfunctioning. But it's almost over over here.

I think they go all day. And so that they can read all the kinot. And they read them slowly.

It would help if the text wasn't so small. Maybe I'd pay more attention...

I have a heter to knit during the 9 days. It's more about making new garments and actually finishing them than the actual act of knitting. So if you work on something that you know you won't finish, or something that isn't a garment, or something that you won't benefit from (like charity items) then it isn't a problem.

Do I get a 1up or a fireflower?

Hmm, fasting never enabled me to shoot fiery balls of ...um... Fire out of my hands, so it must be a 1up. (You get a share in the World to Come!)

Woooowwwwwwww, that's a cool heter ;]

(it's all academical to me since I don't knit...)

Yeah, I'd go insane if I couldn't knit for 9 days...

I haven't fasted in quite a while. Back when I was religious, I used to fast on a weekly basis. I went on a two-day fast one time, Good Friday and the Saturday after that (odd that that day has no name that I know of ...)

2 days?!?! Wow. I could never do that. I could never do weekly fasting either. No wonder you're no longer religious!

*laughs* That actually has nothing to do with my not being religious anymore. :-) It was a purely personal decision, and one I'd dropped before I lost my religion. :-)

I dunno, though. It's not as hard for me as for most because my hunger sense is a bit unreliable to begin with. I've "accidentally fasted" for a day or so a number of times because I didn't notice I was hungry. So, when I decided to intentionally fast, it wasn't very hard. The 2-day one was pretty tough, though. I did drink orange juice to get me through day 2, though.
