My dig is going quite well. Turns out that the food only went semi-kosher, but when I got to the dig, I was relieved to see a soldier with a kippah on, since that meant another religious Jew was part of the dig and planned on eating and surviving...He's only here for the first week, since he has to go back to the army but he dug here last year. And the ingredients of everything are kosher, so I've followed his lead, and have been eating the regular archaeological breakfast (bread with butter and jam, cucumbers, cheese, and hard boiled eggs) salad and bread for lunch, and bread with chocolate spread and some salad for dinner, and in between sometmes somethng from the store. So I'm fine, which I figured I would be.

We haven't found anything in my square, but that's ok. Everyone is really nice, and we have a lot of fun. I've realized that that's the most important part of digging- being with people who you get along with and know how to have a good time. And I don't really mind the lack of shade tents or port-a-pottys (which my other digs have had). Sure, t's inconvenient and it gets really hot out, but I'm having fun. We're roughing it. Except that we have air-conditioned bunks with running water. And we don't work at all on Sundays (no pottery washing!). So this is more cushy than Safi in some ways.

There are a lot of insects that bite. So I have to put on bug spray in the morning and at night as well. And the bugs bite HARD. Which is annoying. All want to do is update LJ in peace. Is that so much to ask?

I was worried about finding a place for shabbat, but now I'm going to be visiting [livejournal.com profile] stone_ and his family for shabbat. He asked me if I played games. Of course I do! Maybe I should have asked if we'd have Settlers Cookies. That would be awesome. (Though I guess that's probably not happenng, right?). Oh well. Yay for a game-filled Shabbat in the making.

And I guess that's it. The Montanans on my dig are nice. Ben warned me about Montanans. Now I'm trying to figure out where in Montana Ben is from, based from what I've learned from the Montanans on my dig. My guess is Bozeman...people from Bute fight all the time, people from Great Falls have nothing better to do than sell drugs, especially meth, and Bozeman is the yuppie town...I suppose there are other towns in Montana where he could be from, but those are the only ones I've heard of so far. I e-mailed Ben an update about the dig, so we'll see if he ever e-mails me back. I forgot to tell him about the lack of shade tents. I wonder if they have shade tents where he digs in Jordan...

So there. I'm alive, and doing well. And as a note, I don't have enough time to read everyone's LJ in depth. I can skim my friends list, but if anyone has something really important they'd like me to read, you should probably e-mail me. Or e-mail me anyways, since I like e-mails.
