Tonight I went to not one, but 2 shows!

First was "Confusion," the PennYo show. PennYo is Penn's Chinese acapella group. [livejournal.com profile] plus_c came up to do spotlight for them. They were amazing. I took a ton of pictures, and a 4-5 minute video of this hilarious Jay Chou (sp?) medley.

Then the Penn Singers performed Candide. I had a quick break in between to get some food at WaWa, which is right near the Iron Gate Theatre. (WaWa saved us many times during the tech week of Chopin Playoffs. We bought a lot of chocolate and ice cream.) And Candide was hilarious and amazing as well. Now I want to go read the book.

[And [livejournal.com profile] platypuses and [livejournal.com profile] superducky1 were awesome in Candide.]

To backtrack now- Shabbat was good, though there were some points that were not as good as others. I'm not going to go into details, it's mostly internal drama based on my paranoia of not having a social life. I'll deal.

There were some interesting frat boys this morning at CJC (who know you, A.A...) and their conversation that I overheard reminded me of an overheard fratboy convo in the Providence (not actually Providence) TFGreen airport last week.

So last week's was two guys talking, one saying how the problem with such a small school was that that they knew all the hot girls, and if you did something bad, everyone would know about it (and thus, I assume, you'd having a tougher time finding someone to hook up with you.) And he said the other guy had it right, having a steady relationship.

So today's fratboys were talking about how one had a hard time breaking up with a girl, and he even used the line "I can't date someone who is not Jewish." Um, hello? If that's the case why did you date her in the first place? They also had this inferiority complex (they go to school in Baltimore and were on a road trip)- they kept on talking about how Penn students think they're so smart, but how one of the frat boys got higher SAT scores, or later they asked me if we had a chess team and I said I wasn't sure, and he said he was going to say "oh our chess team won ____ [championship/ tournament/whatever]." Etc. I was thinking of calling them on it (but decided against it). Not that I really care, since I'm fine with my intelligence or lack thereof. Going to Penn doesn't automaticaly make me smart. And these frat boys were really immature, even though they're juniors, so you'd think they'd have grown out of it by now. Is this what humanity has come to? If so, then we're doomed.

Yay, Penn Singers!!!!

I was a Penn Singer (and a Penn Player, and a Quadramic, too) back in the day. Back when there was a theater in the Annenberg school, too! Ah, good times....

Cool. I wish I actually performed. I should have tried out for a singers show, especially since they're all cool about shomer shabbat people being in the ensemble and not performing on Friday nights. But now I'm a senior anyways, and my voice has deteriorated with 4 years of no formal singing. Hopefully I'll get into this year's Teatron show. (I've been tech the past 3 years.)

I did Teatron, too! (i was also in the Hillel a cappella group and the Israeli dance group, both of which have changed names like eight times since I was there.)

Back when I was in Singers, we actually had Shomer Shabbat leads, and they had Friday night understudies. Monty directed everything back then, and he was cool about it for both Glee Club and Singers.
Me - well, I wasn't as observant back then....

Monty is probably still cool about it, and it's just that no shomer shabbas people have been casted as leads recently. I don't think I could ever be a lead, so I guess when I said ensemble I was thinking more about myself theoretically.
