[livejournal.com profile] alanscottevil is the coolest person ever. He had a billion people over for a going away Shabbat for Yaakov and Dede. And [livejournal.com profile] arctic_alpine and [livejournal.com profile] rivka_m and [livejournal.com profile] leftyjew were there. And so was Mikey, who I hadn't seen in months (I mean he does live there...)

We did a kabbalat Shabbat with tons of singing, and we had an awesome dinner, and we sang more (and we did your Yaq Ribon, [livejournal.com profile] boroparkpyro and I finally explained the whole word pairs thing).

We went to bed pretty late. I had forgotten pajamas so I wore my shirt from that day, and I borrowed pajama bottoms from Mikey. And I slept on one of the couches. They have tons of nice couches.

And on Saturday everyone went to shul except for 3 of us who stayed back.

And in the afternoon we played mafia, except it wasn't mafia but it was "werewolves on the kibbutz." Apparently last time everyone got together there was an hour long debate on the rules because everyone knew a different way of playing. The villagers won. I was the detective/nightime questioner person. And of course, I got killed since I knew that one of the werewolves was Sam. Turns out the other was [livejournal.com profile] leftyjew. But I didn't know.

And in the afternoon Ana, Tzvi, [livejournal.com profile] rivka_m and I went for a walk to the playground. It was pretty humid out.

After Shabbat we went to see "Little Miss Sunshine." It was amazing. And on the way there I learned that Sam is a fellow firefly fan ([livejournal.com profile] alanscottevil was using the word "shiny" as a bad word and I was pretty horrified. How can shiny be bad? It's shiny!) How did I spend a Shabbat with him and not know he was a firefly fan?

And on Sunday Tzvi gave me a ride to the metro station. And then I hung out with Stevie and we met one of his friends and played a scrabble game that lasted almost five hours. Then [livejournal.com profile] groovin_reuven's mom gave me a ride home since she was dropping off his little brother.

And I'm back. I feel so overwhelmed with what I have to do. I don't even know if I have all the stuff that I need to submit to Dorot to get my scholarship money (like some copy of my ticket, etc.) I'm so freaking disorganized. I don't even remember all the things I have to do for Dorot, because I had to sign the list and give it back. I have a written copy somewhere, but it's in RI. Ok. I do know I need a letter from Andrew Stewart saying I dug at Tel Dor. He's back now, so that shouldn't be a problem. And for Jewish studies I need to write some sorta research thing. Hmm. A preview of my thesis, perhaps?

But it's 11:06. I can't get much accomplished now, even if you do yell at me over IM. (Don't. I'll probably just laugh at you.) I should go to bed. Goodnight, live journal people.

Ok. I think you win for most confusing comment ever.

1. would translate as "Come play in the bakery. I'm the baker!!!!" right? So I have no idea what that's a reference to. Should I be know?

2. would be less confusing "good night village/town/small city. good morning village/town/small city." Which I assume is in reference to mafia/werewolf. Of course even here I could be wrong.

Thus, most confusing comment ever.

1. Close, it's Let's play Mafia. I'm the baker!!!!.
(i'm sure you can figure out why)

2. yup. those were the commands by the person running the game telling all the villagers to go to sleep and wake up.

That makes a lot more sense. (This is what you get for writing in Heberew. I wasn't sure what the first one said and asked [livejournal.com profile] levana_b to translate, so she translated "מאפיה" as "bakery." My Hebrew is at best good enough to get me from place to place and order felafel and buy skirts. And understand some of the stuff I say when I daven. That's about it, though.)

*blink* Shiny is bad!? How can shiny be bad?

Twisted twisted soul.

(yes, I had the resist the urge to throw a gosseh or gorramit in there.)

Basically it was a discussion on Bethesda. He meant "shiny" as in "polished." All nice and expensive and clean and everything is the same. (I've never been to Bethesda, so anyone else reading the comments feel free to correct me.)

But yeah, I had the same reaction.

Oh, and for amusements sake, a colleague I'm working with at Hebrew U used Shiny as a random positive adjective yesterday while we were sitting around peering at bones. And she had the gall to claim that even though she'd seen firefly, that it was not a conscious reference.

Well one of my friends used shiny in that way and she had never even seen the series, so it's possible...

What kind of bones were they?

Currently, Tel Afek bones. Sheep/Goat, Cow, Gazelle, Pig, Human, Porcupine, Rodent, Nile Perch, Bird...

Looking for cut marks basically. Previously, we went through Tel Halif bones.

Porcupine bones and bones with cut marks are definitely shiny :)
