Shabbat was awesome. I stayed at the Raskins, who are friends of my dad's. They're very frum. They make Andrea Levine look Reform.

First I went to services at the day school, and I was the only girl. I didn't mind, since this has happened to me at Penn a few times, though never on a Shabbat. The women in this community daven at home.

When I got back, they were still getting things ready, since I had started Shabbat early with that service, but it didn;t really start for another half hour or so. Then at 8ish we started walking to the Rubenstein's for dinner.

Netanya, Esther, and I took a long cut to see all the pretty houses. Netanya is the oldest daughter, and she's getting married in 6 days. Esther is the youngest, she's like 8. She's very hyper, but most of the time she was well-behaved.

Dinner was good, although it was vegitarian. But we got ice cream for desert, so it kind of made up for the lack of bassar [meat, for all you non-orthos/penn people who read my journal].

I slept in the next morning, though at first I had woken up at 10 of 8 and could have gone to shul. I davened shacharit in the house, and all of the girls were davening, though everyone was at a different point in the service.

While walking to lunch, we saw Chanina, Netanya's fiance, and Mrs. Raskin had an important conversation with him. For a half hour! Me and Miriam [the second oldest daughter] couldn't go to where we were having lunch until they finished because we were eating in a Yeshiva, and only had permission to enter with Mrs. Raskin. Otherwise we might go visiting the boys dorms and seducing them or something... Not a bad idea...

Lunch was really good, although the AC was on high, and of course we couldn't do anything about it.

Then we went back, and I spent the next 4 hours reading and napping.

When I woke up, I played set and some other card games with Esther, and although I always won set, she won some of the other games.

Then we had Shalshuddis, and Mrs. Raskin had made her own challah, which was really good. Since all the boys were out learning, we could sing. And we sung the Yedid Nefesh we always do at Penn Shalshuddis, which made me very happy, since I had missed it so much, and hadn't heard it sung in 2 weeks.

Then all these random people came over, and so did my parents. We made havdallah, and that was pretty much the end.

Mrs. Raskin said I could come every shabbat, except this coming week because it's the day before the wedding, so she's gonna find me another frummy family. Which means no more Shabbases where I have to worry about my Grandparents putting me in awkward Shabbat-breaking situations.

I wonder if this is what Lakewood is like...
