Shabbat at
eitanhalevy's
Jul. 16th, 2006 05:23 pmI had originally been planning to visit
kmelion for shabbat, since she had invited me, and up until Thursday that was still the case. But with the current situation, my parents didn't want me to visit the West Bank for Shabbat, and I respect their wishes. So after going crazy on Thursday, and still being upset about Goliath and life in general, I made a bunch of phone calls, and
eitanhalevy kindly offered to host me.
Since I didn't sign up for a sheirut and they were full, I planned on taking a bus. But then Anat got me a ride with Justin, the archaeozoologist (who happens to be good friends with Ben). So it was me, him, and MicahGS, who was staying all the way in Har Nof.
Before going there I stopped at marzipan and picked up 1.5 kilo (3.3lbs) of rugelah to munch on for Shabbat. I also saw some other safi people and gave them directions.
And I arrived with plenty of time to spare, which meant I didn't have to rush getting ready for Shabbat.
We davened at the kotel (there were a bunch of Carlebach minyanim going on right next to the mechitza) and went to a Chabad Rabbu's house in the Old City for dinner. And one of the women there had read my beyondBT stuff (she kept on saying that my name sounded familiar, and that explains it). I might be Jewish internet famous. Whee!
And by the end of dinner I was relly really tired, having dug and having fasted and having had some chocolate liquor. Not such a good combination. I think we went to bed pretty early, like before 1.
And yet my body woke me up at 7 and then again at 8 without an alarm. I had Marzipan for breakfast before heading out to Kedem. Yael, an awesome jitw person, was there, so after services I gave her a hug. And we did the awesome melody for Kel Adon, which I couldn't remeber that afternoon but it came to me as I was trying to fall asleep that night. And lunch was just me and A.G. I got back at 3, and finished reading The Light Ages by Ian MacCleod. I reccommend the book. And I took a little nap on the couch for about 30 minutes. Eventually
eitanhalevy got back and then he went to mincha and then we had seudah shlisheet and then we went to ma'ariv. All in all a nice, relaxing Shabbat, which was welcome after my horrible few days before that. And
eitanhalevy is an awesome person.
Of course, when I headed out this morning, after saying goodbye I realized I had forgot my marzipan. This wasn't an issue since one of his roommates was still in. So I left a few for everyone.
And then I met
levana_b for breakfast. (While I was waiting I saw Lisi!!!!!!!!) We had ice cream. And we went clothes shopping. And then MicahGS and I took the bus back to Revadim. And I washed a lot of pottery.
Tomorrow I'm going back to Jerusalem and I'm meeting Jodi Magness. Which means I can skip pottery washing/reading, and it means shiny miqvahness, and it means I can buy kippah thread since I didn't have time today. I have enough for now, but I need more white for what I'm working on, both the TGS kippah and another one I just started which is using 3 threads at once. And then I'll need some for
kellev's. Wow. All of a sudden I'm making tons of kippot again!!!
I'm not switching areas, because Alex and Linda really need me, and they think thatI'm doing a good job as recorder. However, there isn't sa flint in one of my flint bags, so I don't know what happened with that. I mean I don't think it's something that I personally did, but my guess is that I'm still responsible, being the Queen of Shiny Things in my square.
And I'm going to write Ben an e-mail now, after I post this and head back to charge the laptop, since he should know that I'm ok now after my frantic phone call on Wednesday night.
And for all of you in America/the rest of the world- don't worry about my safety. I'm far away from all of the conflict. I'm in the south of the country and everything is happening in the north. I'm not going to the West Bank for now, and I'm definitely not going up to Haifa or the Golan or something. It's probably good that I'm no longer at Dor, which is right next to Haifa. If you want to call me in Israel, from America it's 011-972-52-858-0307. And I'm not even thinking about coming back early.
