Huge Favor and an Update
Jun. 24th, 2006 09:55 pmFirst thing is first: I have a favor to ask someone who is still in America and is coming to Israel while I'm here. [I guess that would be either
alanscottevil,
boroparkpyro,
eitanhalevy,
ilana_frombklyn,
levana_b,
superducky1 or
tobeginagain]
I need to start a new knitting/crocheting project and I'm pretty sure that I can't get normal yarn in Israel. If I paid you back [probably in shekels] could you get me the required yarn and needles? If yes, e-mail me for the actual details. And it shouldn't cost anything more than 15$, probably less.
If you could do this, you would be my best friend in the entire world*.

And a post-shabbat update.
You'd think I'd be hanging out with people now on Ben Yehuda street, but I don't really have anyone I could hang out with. True, I met some cool people over shabbat, but I have none of their numbers...
So before shabbat I was walking around a lot, and on the way to Shira Chadasha I noticed my ankle hurting. It took me a while to figure out that it was because I was twisting it to avoid stepping on the blister I had gotten earlier in the day.
Shira Chadasha davening was good, but not the best. Yedid Nefesh dragged, the woman leading didn't sing the psalm that comes after lechu n'ranana [you'd think I'd know the numbers by now. the one that starts "shiru l'ado[shem] shir chadash, shiru l'ado[shem] kol ha'aretz. shiru l'ado[shem] baruch shemo basru m'rom lyom yeshuato..." And I have everything memorized I just forget the numbers. Oh well.] And she started lecha dodi to the tune of esai enai which worked but took people a bit to catch on, and the second tune was the breslov niggun** and that's usually one that should be used as a first tune [in my opinion] because the second tune is better when it's upbeat. The woman did have a good voice, though.
Ma'ariv was better. More energetic.
And before davening I ran into my friend Jess who I hadn't seen since November [when
arctic_alpine and AaronDN and I went to the poetry slam and
desh was also there...] and she's at Pardes for the summer, and is going to get me in touch with all the awesome teachers, and hopefully that means I can spend another shabbat at Tova Leah's.
L.L. and her brother J.J.L. were at davening, so I didn't need to worry about finding their place. The meal was small [4 of us] but fun.
I got home late, but I stayed up a bit to learn my leining until I was blanking out and decided to go to bed.
This time I managed 6 hours of sleep, but I kept on waking up.
In the morning I learned my leining, and I still had some time. It's a 20 minute walk from Be'it Shmuel to Kedem [when I'm injured but am walking quickly, that is] and services started at 9. I set out at 8:30.
I realized after a bit I had forgotten to bring water, but was like "no big deal, I'll survive." Then I got to the intersection before the top of the Bell Park and realized that I forgot the sheet of paper that had the directions to
trempnvt's house. So I went back. Unfortunately the door was now locked since the security guard had went somewhere else. I tried the other door. Also locked. Then I went back to the first door and it was open. Apparently she had been giving a tour and that's why she had gotten up...
Got my water and my directions and set out again. I made it to davening and got there for the end of psukei.
Kedem davening had a lot of singing. And I did my leining and messed up on the trope a few times since I was so out of it. Meanwhile I knew it cold when I had practiced....
As a last minute thing S.E. [who hadn't been sure if he was coming, but ended up going with his cousin N. who was staying with him for Shabbat] ended up leading mussaf. And he used my long lost lecha dodi as a tune for the announcing the new month part of the service. And he used the awesome oseh shalom tune as a tune for sim shalom in the repetition. He had told me before that he liked leading services but he had never said that he was really awesome at it...
The hike to
trempnvt's was longer than expected. I got there around 1, so I had to make my own kiddush and motzei, but there was still plenty of food. And as soon as I sat down I drank tons of water. There were 6 of us at the meal, and it was fun even if I was a bit out of it.
Of course the walk home was way shorter, since I had taken a roundabout way to get to lunch from kedem. I probably would have been better off going back to be'it shumel and walking from there, had I known I could have just follwed Betzalel street...
I took a big nap, and woke up after shabbat had ended.
Now to take care of the blister. I had a sewing kit with threaded needles. So I took the green one and sterilized it and used it to pop the blister. Of course, it took a long time to get it through. Then I left the string in to drain it as much as I could. Then I put neosporin on the string before I pulled it through so I could get neosporin inside the blister. Hopefully that helped and I'll be ok tomorrow. As of now it still hurts.
And now I'm here. I might call it an early night so I can wake up early to call Nahsholim tomorrow. Worst case scenario I can crash on
yadfothgildloc's floor the night before Dor starts.
Or maybe I can get shoko [chocolate milk that comes in bags] since I haven't had it yet. I'm slipping or something. That should have been the first thing I ate. I also haven't had felafel. Right now I'm finishing up my Pizza Meter leftovers from yesterday lunch with S.E. since I don't have a fridge.
*That is until someone else claims the title.
**At least that's what Ari L. had told me the tune was called.
