Letter Meme
May. 1st, 2006 10:45 pmThis is how it works: Comment on this entry and get a letter.
Write ten words beginning with that letter, including an explanation what the word means to you and why.
I got the letter M from
superducky1:
1. Mice- JG had a dead mouse in her apartment about a month ago, which I fearlessly disposed of. Then I became her boyfriend, since apparently that's what boyfriends do. That and buy coffee, which I also do for her. But mice aren't as scary as cockroaches, which scare the crap out of me.
2. Marc- My dad's name. There was also a guy named Marc Katz who I went to shcool with and he was a year older than me. We were in NFTY together, and for a while [beginning of 10th grade-ish] I liked him, but fortunately I got over him. I also asked him to Junior prom, but he said no because another girl was probably going to ask him. Meanwhile I then went on to ask another 13 guys before I got a yes. That was quite traumatizing.
3. Massages- I want one. Badly. My back hurts sooooo much. There were some JitW people who gave really good massages. I miss JitW.
4. Music- I'm a very musical person. I have some sort of perfect pitch, though I can't identify a note just by hearing it. I can, however, give you any song in the key that it's sung [such as stuff on the radio] and I can tell when people are singing it in a different key. If I'm used to a song being in a certain key, I have a lot of trouble singing harmonies in another key. Lai Yehudim on Saturday night was an example of that, but I wasn't going to ask them to change the key.
Music is also an essential part of my Judaism. It's why I got interested in prayer. I love to sing, and I find services without singing to be sad and boring [on Shabbat, that is. During the week obviously the idea is to finish as quickly as possible and have no kevanah, and if you do have kevanah, it's during shmoneh esrei which is silent anyways. I would love to sing psukei though. But I can understand people not wanting to]
5. Meep! I say it a lot. Sometimes because something unexpected happens [like someone quickly heading towards me] and sometimes because I'm upset, sometimes because I'm happy, sometimes just because. It's my all-purpose word.
6. Meat- בשר in Hebrew. Meat contains essential proteins that my hobbity body needs. I like meat. I don't need it every day, but if I don't have it at least weekly, I start to feel it. The week and a half before passover when Hillel was dairy was not good for me. Fortunately there was bassar when I visited
arctic_alpine, at their Hillel. Her meal was vegetarian.
7. Meals- I like making Shabbat/Holiday meals, and inviting lots of people. I like to make people happy, and meals can do that. And they're fun to have.
8. Mittens- My adorable cat, who I miss a lot.

Awww. Just look at him. He's a bit fat, but he's so cuddly. He doens't let most people hold him, but usually I can get away with it. And since I started college, he's been demanding a lot more attention whenever I'm home. Now I can't do anything without having him clawing my back so I'll pet him or something. And he'll follow me around.
9. Marxist Archaeology- I definitely got this wrong on the exam. I had no clue what to write, but two other questions [Agency and some figure thingy] were on there and I definitely did not know those, nor could I make something up, so I answered this question instead [you can skip 2 in each of the 2 sections]. And now I still have the Ben paper. But Ben said that most people here couldn't define Marxist archaeology in 1-2 sentences, and I wasn't completely off with my guess.
10. Marriage- I want to get married some day. I am definitely not ready right now. I don't know enough about being in a relationship to know how to make it work. And there aren't any prospects right now anyways. So another year at Penn, where there are no guys, and then I'm free, and I can make aliyah, and find a nice archaeologist, and we can get married and live in Jerusalem and have baby hobbits who grow up playing on excavations instead of in sandboxes. [Or maybe we can bury things in a sandbox for them to dig up...]
