A plea

The guy I like[d?] is not single, which I had no way of knowing until I asked him out last night.

Can we make a law that everyone needs to wear something that tells the world that they're taken? I mean, we have wedding rings, but that only works when someone is married. And most frum men don't wear them, so you really have no way of knowing.

Please, men, if you're going to be hot and taken, do me a favor and mention your girlfriend a few times, so I can get the hint. It'll be easier for all of us that way.

And spead the word.

**Edit: One of my friends just told me the 5 minute rule- If you've been talking to someone for 5 minutes and they haven't mentioned their significant other, they don't have one, or it's not really serious, or something is very, very wrong.**

I wear a wedding ring for this reason- my wife got annoyed by the same thing when she was single, and didn't want anyone else to have the same problem.

to be fair, I know that I don't always want to be viewed just as "Marc's girlfriend" (which is hard at school, when almost everyone I know views us as a unit). I know that when I was at Hebrew U, I made a concious effort to not take about him so much, because I didn't want to be this annoying girl who always told stories about her boyfriend and how much she missed him.

BUT, I know what you mean. Once you've been talking for awhile and gotten past preliminaries or whatever specific topics started your conversation, than mention of the significant other should occur.
