Actually glad to be in R.I.
Mar. 2nd, 2006 09:09 pmIt all started out innocently enough. I was in the Philly airport, and I boarded flight 850, headed to Providence R.I. Southwest divides people up into groups A,B, and C based on when you print your boarding pass. I was in group B, and it was a full flight, so I didn't expect that good of a seat. But I ended up with 2nd row aisle. And I was really tired despite my 8.5 hours of sleep, so I napped.
I got up as we were pulling into the gate, and there wasn't a mad dash to the door. I was confused. I asked the woman sitting next to me if we were here, and she said yes. But it was only 4:30 and the flight left at 4, and I don't think we broke the sound barrier or anything. So I asked the stewardess. Turns out that we were back in Phildaelphia, and the Providence airport was temporarily closed because of snow.
So we sat until 5:30, and for that hour we were allowed out of the plain. I went out for 2 minutes and ran into Adam S., which was rather unexpected. Then I got back on the plain and sat some more. At 5:30 they had reopened the airport and we headed out.
Towards the end of the flight we were flying through snow, which scared me a bit. But we landed safely, and started heading towards the gate. And stopped.
Turns out there was still a plane in our gate and they had closed the runways again, so that plane was stuck there. I still can't comprehend why we couldn't just use another empty gate, even if it did belong to another airline. It made no sense. But in any case we were stuck there another hour.
Finally at 7:15 we got off, and finally at 7:45 the luggage came out. And then we drove home.
I'm tired, and hungry, and in pain. But at least I have shiny internet and my cat and a lot of kippah yarn.
