more on the parents
Apr. 4th, 2004 03:34 amI guess this will be an update in parts, so first of all, here's an amusing conversation with my mom that I had either wednesday or thursday afternoon [and I guess if you want, you can all im my mom since I'm too lazy to change her screen name to "mom"]:
JLAdler: I bought the new dishes today. Flowered ones for meat and blue ones for milk (think of the blue cow to remember)
Kitten219: ok
Kitten219: what are you doing about the toaster?
JLAdler: buying a new one
JLAdler: The one we have isn't working well anyways
Kitten219: true
JLAdler: I still need to get pots and pans and meat silverware
Kitten219: you can't kasher those?
JLAdler: I only have one set of silerware so I need a second. The pots that have teflon in them cannot be koshered
JLAdler: and the cookie sheets have too much baked onto them that I couldn't get them cleaned
JLAdler: The stuff that I can kosher I will
JLAdler: I told Aunt barbara how you were now keeping kosher. She said that your Grandma Ida would have been soo happy to hear that. That she wishes she could have known
Kitten219: oh wow
JLAdler: Actually my dad's dad was an atheist, so my dad was not brought up very religious. When he met my mom he became Orthodox and went to shul every day
Kitten219: i didn't know that
JLAdler: Yes, my mom came from a religious family. My grandparts were one of the founders of the Shul in Quincy
JLAdler: And Dad and I were married by and orthodox rabbi
Kitten219: really?
JLAdler: yes
JLAdler: That why I said I wasn't upset by [you] becoming more religious
Kitten219: oh
JLAdler: That was how I was brought up. It was only when I went to college that I became more reformed. [*Rachel note* Reform, not Reformed. Don't ever call a Reform person "Reformed"] And when Dad and I lived in Illinois there were no temples around where we were. The closest one was 45 minutes away and it was reform. So that was why we joined
Kitten219: ah
JLAdler: I like when I was little sitting up in the women's section which was the balconey. Periodically one of the men would come over a shush the women who were talking to much
Kitten219: lol

I wonder if my relations are improving with my parents, and if so, is it because 1. i'm more religious, 2. i'm less depressed or 3. i don't live at home anymore?
